Apparently there is an alloy Epic coming soon - maybe not to all markets, but based on the location of this show, I'd guess Australia is included.

Wasn't the S-Works Epic 8 advertised as being for electronic drivetrains only?
This seems far more sensible, Shimano does still sponsor MTB teams and racers, including two recent gold-medal winners and 2/3 of all medalists in Paris, but I'm still intersted to know why it was advertised as wireless-only if it's not OR if it is truly wireless-only, then what this work-around is for athletes like Thompson.

Is the difference between the Epic 8 EVO and non-EVO bikes just the fork? I’m looking through the spec charts and the frames look identical. I’m wondering because they sell the EVO as a frameset but not the non-EVO so could I just build the frameset up with a 120 fork?

Sold everything, kept only gym membership and #S Crux '25 @ Force XPLR D2, Zipp 303 S XPLR

As far as I can tell, they are both 190x45 and have 120mm of travel. Meaning you could buy the EVO frameset and upgrade to the Flight Attendant fork and shock and it wouldn’t be any different than the non-EVO once built up.

Yes, sorry, should have made that clear. I'm just after the frame. Plan was to remove the shock anyways. And based on SRAM's rec for the FA shock, it doesn't distinguish between Epic 8 or Epic 8 EVO, just Epic 2024+.

you can either get Evo frameset or Epic Comp, and strip it and sell those parts. I did the latter one, and it made the resulting frameset much cheaper than evo frameset. Of course it required more time of advertising and packing and sending parts.

Have seen that an XL S-Works Epic 8 can weigh 10,4 kg ready to ride (incl twin cages, pedals, bell, gps holder...) with XX-SL transmission, FA and AXS dropper. WIth a fixed seatpost it weighs approx 9,8 kg. This is with some lightweight parts on it but relatively heavy tires (F&R 750g).

Any issues with it? This is in terms of the chain rubbing on it causing drag, it coming loose and bouncing around, being too flimsy to stop the chain from dropping etc.
Any insight would be appreciated!

To be clear, that's not my ride. It's Michaela Thompson's set-up from Leadville.
That said, I have some experience with the MRP chainguide on Giant Anthems. It often takes a little bit of filing to get things 100% aligned, but once it's properly set-up, it seems to do it's job well. The edges of the guide are smoothed and soft angles, so even if you do get a bit of rub at one end of the cassette, it's not going to result in excessive watts lost, chain wear or noise.

The MRP chainguide comes with every epic. Also with mine. So it's stock . so far i've never had problems with or without the chainguide on my epic.
