This is a proof of concept , still to be tested “in the wild” but looks promising. All gears work without problems. Note that I am using a regular chain , not a flattop. The chain had to be shortened 1 link as when it is assembled with the same cassete and an EAGLE derailleur.

Looks promising.
Do you think 10-52 would work?

Any updates here? I'm debating how to spec an XPLR 1x setup.

What is the reasoning for regular vs flat top chain? What are your thoughts on the gearing jumps of the 10-50? What chainring tooth count is it paired with?

It just won't work on a normal hanger. I've got a 46 and it's at the limit. It looks like he's got an extender.

What cage are you using? Does it shift slower / less smoothly?

I tired this myself. I was able to get it shifting in the stand once with the minus one link comment. Any alterations after that prevented the derailleur from using the two largest gears on the cassette, I even tried going back to +2 links and could not get full range. A difference compared to mechanical is that AXS seems "smart" enough to not attempt a shift if it can't, versus mechanical where you could force the shift and see what the limiting factor was. I gave up and went with a GX AXS derailleur.

Answering my own original questions:
What is the reasoning for regular vs flat top chain? Eagle 12 speed to match ramp pins of 10-50 cassete
What are your thoughts on the gearing jumps of the 10-50? I don't mind so far, its not my road bike so precise cadence isn't an issue. Plus side is that I'm in the middle of the cassette a lot.
What chainring tooth count is it paired with? Unclear in the video, I'm running a 42 tooth SRAM XSYNC

The video looks like a standard hanger in a metal frame, nothing about it suggests an extender.

It is a stock Rival AXS XPLR derailleur, nothing in the video looks different than out of the box.
