Sportful sizing/fit
I have a Sportful Fiandre Medium jaket in size x-large (yes, stupid naming convention). Fabulous piece, I prefer it to all my Assos and Castelli gabba, Perfetto etc jackets. Compared to Castelli, Gabba/perfetto, the Sportful is smaller but not enough that I had to size down (also XL in Gabba/Perfetto). it is a very close race fit and has beautiful long (skinny) sleeves - perfect for me. I am 183cm tall and 76kg. I would not be able to zip up a large, and I have a very lean body, although my chest is a touch broader than average.

What do you like about this jacket? I have (and love) a perfetto, just wondering what’s good here.Mr.Gib wrote:I have a Sportful Fiandre Medium jaket in size x-large (yes, stupid naming convention). What's your waist and chest circumference, if I may ask?Mr.Gib wrote: ↑Wed Jan 06, 2021 5:12 pmI have a Sportful Fiandre Medium jaket in size x-large (yes, stupid naming convention). The skinnier sleeves mean less loose material, and the longer sleeves means less chance of an exposed wrist. Cuffs and collar are a better design as well. I also find that the front and sleeve windproof material allows water vapour to escape more quickly than the Perfetto without sacrificing any of the protection from cold wind. The back is also a super breathable Roubaix type thermal fleece, so better for hard riding - I think it's their "No Rain" fabric - not really waterproof but I did get caught in a brief light shower and the water mostly beaded off. The whole thing is just less clammy than the Perfetto. I use a single baselayer for 7 - 12 Celcius, and a double baselayer can take me down to near freezing. Pockets are amazingly large and stretchy but also solid and hold their shape well. The top bands of the pockets do not sag at all -the really "snap" shut and keep things neat and secure. Zipper is super heavy duty, almost too much, a bit tough to pull. I had to attach a parachute cord pull tab to help.
Something to keep in mind is that the Fiandre Pro Medium is more like a longsleeve Perfetto Light although the Sportful piece feels more substantial. The regular Fiandre Pro is perhaps a better comparison to the regular Perfetto with its more windproof back.

My waist is the same (84cm), but my chest is only 94cm (179cm tall and 70-71kg). I wonder if the M would fit or I should size up to L ?waist is 33 in (84cm), chest is 42 in (106cm).
I guess you went with the XL primarily because of your broader chest, but would the size L have been already rather tight on your waist?
Thanks
The XL is a good race fit for all my parts. Pretty snug from shoulder to waist.
I think you might need a large. It would be worthwhile seeing if you can find out the dimension of the waist area on a size medium. Have a look at their sizing chart, maybe there is some useful info there. You're built a bit like a cylinder - must be aero. I would size the same as you wear in Castelli race fit tops.

LoL, a cylinder indeed, though not very aero either in terms of bike setup or riding speed In fact, I've just tried a Large, and it fits nicely, snug and all. But I' wondering about the temperature range. The shop owner was trying to convince me that it's a proper winter jacket, even though the official Sportful recommendation is for above +8 degrees C and it's definitely a bit thin. Do you feel it keeps you warm and cosy in cold weather or is it more like a high intensity training garment? And does it breathe that much better than Gore Windstopper (or Infinium)? I have a few Windstopper jackets and in general I don't have an issue with excessive sweating. I also have a Polartec Neoshell jacket that I really like, but it's not a cycling jacket, just a regular Marmot outdoor item for hiking/walking.Mr.Gib wrote: ↑Sat Jan 30, 2021 12:11 amThe XL is a good race fit for all my parts. i have the Sportful Fiandre (can't remember which one, but two layered, mesh inside, water-resistant outside, in M. I am 6' tall, 32 inch waist, 38" chest (think bone-rack) and as Mr Gib says, it is long enough in the arms and waist, water-resistant, and fits tight. In winter, I wear a long sleeved polypro base layer, a jersey, and the jacket, and it is fine to zero if you are moving. I wear a Castelli, shake-dry jacket to cut the wind below zero. I like it a lot and will get another. Issues are the zipper already mentioned, and the fabric is fraying at the bottom of the zipper. I don't see it as being enough by itself below zero unless there are three long-sleeved layers.

I wear S in sportfuls jersey, bibs and skinsuits, and also have two very old San remos in the same size. The skin suit is, as expected, a bit tighter than their normal team clothes and a lot tighter than my San remos. I'm about 64 kg and 178 cm.
Neither the shop owner nor Sportful are correct regarding temperature. As Always, it comes down to how hard you ride. Most of my winter riding is a what I would call moderate intensity with a few hard efforts, but no extended hammering. I am perfectly comfortable with this jacket at 3 - 5 C with two good winter baselayers. Yesterday I was out in 7 C with a short sleeve summer baselayer underneath a winter baselayer. And I have many rides at 8 - 10 C with a single winter baselayer. Above 10 C I start to think about going to my Perfetto light short sleeve with a winter baselayer and armwarmers. Regardless of the conditions, I always start with a shell on top until I get heated up which take about 15 minutes.steveadore wrote: ↑Sat Jan 30, 2021 6:40 pmLoL, a cylinder indeed, though not very aero either in terms of bike setup or riding speed In fact, I've just tried a Large, and it fits nicely, snug and all. Regarding breathability, my sense is that the Polatec Neoshell of the Sportful breathes a bit better then any of the other Winstopper type products that provide similar protection from the wind. When you combine this with a highly breathable back, you end up with a jacket that is good for higher intensity riding. However, with the right baselayers it can be very comfortable in colder weather even at lesser intensity.

Tried a size L Pro Medium today and realized that it's less tight than I remembered. The chest and the collar were slightly too loose, so I wonder if I should actually give the size M a try too. I don't mind the chest not being skin tight, but the collar might let in cold air

This type of clothing needs to be tight fitting. I'd always choose the tightest fit that does the job. A size M for you doesn't seem out of line given your dimensions. I was out yesterday for 3 hours in my XL, and spent a moment considering the fit. There is no chance I could wear a smaller size. My wife has to help me peel the shoulders to get the thing off (of course I only have one arm that works but still...).

Hi guys, just resurrecting this thread rather than starting a new one. I wear a lot of Castelli and am consistently XL bib and L jersey, I'm looking at some new Sportful kit (Bora Hansgrohe TDF) do we think I'd be the same sizes as my Castelli kit?
Also those of you that use both what do we think of Sportful quality?
Cheers
