Go eat two baked potatoes and tell me if you dont feel full.

Fat makes you fat, point blank. Carbs are fuel, every cell in your body runs on carbs. Go tell an african to stop eating carbs lol.

No one has ever gotten fat just eating to many carbs
The whole obesity crisis stems from people eating too many carbs- specifically added sugars. The whole fat free craze prompted that trend.

Also not sure what Africans have to do with anything.

Carbs on their own do not make you fat. Eating high amounts of fat ruins your insulin sensitivity where you can no longer handle carbs. African countries or asian for that matter main diet is grains, rice, potatoes ect. Fat makes you fat point blank. Mixing processed sugar with a donut will also make you fat, but don't blame the sugar.

People that go low carb are literally insane and I question their mental capacity to make rational decisions. Your body and brain does not work on low carb diet.

So you're saying eat as much chocolate as you like, you won't get fat?

Carbs is fuel but so is fat. Too much without burning it will make you gain weight, that's for sure
Have you ever looked at the back of a chocolate bar? Chocolate is FILLED with saturated fat from cream / dairy, it is not the sugar thats making you fat bro, it is the bloody fat. I swear some of you are clueless yet make these wild claims.

Insulting people you disagree with just shows how insecure you are about your views.

Yes a low carb/high fat diet is bad for insulin sensitivity. But insulin resistance is far from the only mechanism behind weight gain- that's a falsehood you are clinging to.

Weigh gain comes from a surplus of calories, and carbs are by far the easiest macronutrient to overeat, especially in these times of overprocessed high sugar foods. A couple of cups of juice/soda alone amount to hundreds of calories a day. So they are usually the lowest hanging fruit for people to get their calories in check. Reducing carbs from an excess to a good amount doesn't mean going "low carb". If someone is struggling with managing their weight, they should look at all macronutrients to see where they can reduce... carbs are important for energy and endurance sports but they are not sacrosanct.

Carbs are the only macronutrient out of the three that you absolutely do not need. Your body doesn't need any carbs to function. Yes it'll come at a cost to sports since you won't have carbs for those high intensity efforts. But outside of that it won't have any major downsides. Eating fat and protein are essential to your survival. Your body and especially brain does need glucose. But if you don't eat any your body will make it for you. So don't worry, people who do not consume carbs will have all their mental faculties available for them. You will have an advantage over them in most sports because they lack the glycogen stores but their mental faculties are not limited by the lack of carbs.

Also carbs on their own literally make you fat. The purpose of insulin is to store energy into the body. Either as glycogen into your muscles and liver, or if your glycogen stores are full then as fat. As a result you also can't burn fat when your insulin is high because your body is in energy storage mode. Which is also why sports will bring your insulin levels down because your body knows that it needs that fuel it has available now and shouldn't store it for later use. That doesn't mean carbs are bad for you, or protein which also raises insulin though not as much as carbs do. It just means that eating too much of anything will make you fat. Yes your body will turn carbs into fat.

Fat also keeps you satisfied for much longer which means it's a lot easier to avoid constantly stuffing your face full of food. Which is the main reason for getting fat, no matter what that food is. Eating loads of carbs and avoiding fats will spike your insulin and it will make you hungry again after a few hours once your blood glucose levels begin to drop and you'll feel like you need to eat something again. This can easily lead into a cycle where you're stuffing your face full of carbs every few hours. Eat a good fatty meal and you can easily go the entire day without eating and without feeling hungry. Doesn't mean that the meal can't include carbs in it. If you plan on doing high intensity exercises then it probably should have carbs in it to fuel that.

For losing fat how you eat is a lot more important than what you eat. But the what you eat can help in how you eat. Losing weight requires caloric deficit. But remember the insulin and it's task of storing energy for later use. If you stuff your face every few hours you'll keep your insulin high all day you'll be storing energy all day without a chance to ever use that energy outside of the sports you might do during the day when you force your insulin down and during a few hours during the night after your insulin levels have dropped down after your last meal. Surely it's beneficial to have your body in a state it can use fat as energy if your plan is to lose fat. Do (intermittent) fasting and you allow your body to use the energy reserves it has.

Bringing up professional runners into this discussion has little to do with this subject. They need carbs, and plenty of them, to fuel their training and racing. They've also got their diets in check so they won't eat more than they need. They also don't need to lose any fat so it's irrelevant to this discussion. It doesn't prove anything.

Every cell in your body runs on sugar. This is insanity. Your body can not store fat from carbs on its own, its almost impossible. Calories are no calories, you are quoting insulin because you are out of wack eating tons of fat with it. Go eat 2 baked potatoes and tell me you don't feel full.

Please go read a book on human metabolism.

Yes your body will run on sugar but your body is also capable of making it out of fat. Otherwise we'd die on long fasts because there's nothing else but the body fat to generate the sugar needed for your body to function. And the world record fast is 382 days. People on no carb diets would die if the body wasn't capable of making sugar out of fat. But that doesn't happen either. And your body can absolutely store carbs as fat. It can also store extra protein as fat. The job of insulin is to store the extra sugar in your blood as glycogen or as fat for future use.

I've also never claimed that carbs won't make you feel full. Literally anything will make you feel full if you fill your stomach. The difference is what happens couple hours after. When your blood glucose levels drop but your insulin levels are high you get hungry. Now that feeling of hunger will go away after a while but if you just ignore it. But that hunger will never come after those few hours if you ate a meal with mostly fat and some protein.

Your body is VERY bad at storing Carbs at fat, it gets burnt off as oxygen mostly. Your body wants to run on carbs, every cell in your body runs on glucose. There is a reason you feel like shit when you dont eat carbs and all these keto warriors are strung out on caffeine

Yep excess carbs turn to fat very easily through the liver. And keto diets show fats turn back to carbs when necessary.

Carbs are stored with 2-3x its weight in water. People see easy success in losing weight with low-carb diets because of water loss associated with lowered carb level.

Carbs stored as glycogen are stored with water. The carbs stored as fat are turned into straight up fat. You do realize that much of that lost water weight comes from glycogen, which is lost in the first couple of days to a week on keto? Everything lost after that is fat. If your glyxogen stores are full your body strores the excess carbs as fat for later use. It also means that if you start eating carbs again after being on keto for some time you will gain a couple of kilos just from your glycogen stores filling back up.

Why is it so hard for some to accept that the body is extremely effective at turning carbs into fat, and that it can turn fat back into carbs when needed? This should be high school level biology. It doesn't mean you can't eat them. Surely it's better to be aware of the effects different foods have on your body. Ignorance won't save you from anything. If the goal is to lose fat it seems only logical to have your body in a state where it can actually use fat as energy. If the goal is to do high intensity sports then it makes sense to make sure you've got your glycogen stores filled.

How should someone modify their time on the bike to maximize fat loss? With glycogen stores depleted and overall recovery in the shitter I'm imagining it's a lot of fasted zone 2 work with just enough intensity to maintain capacity above threshold
