Why do I feel stronger on my fixed gear, than my geared bike?

A light bike doesn't replace good fitness.

It’s weird I ride my fixed on 30-60 mile rides and it “seems” like I’m able to put more power down and hammer out certain sections. Unfortunately I don’t have a power meter yet so it’s all perceived at the moment.

Fixed bike is 44x16 =70 GI
Both bikes are set up as close as possible as far as fit goes.

When I ride my geared bike I feel worthless haha who knows maybe I’m fatigued, but It just “seems” like I’m slower.

Anyhoo if any of you guys have experienced this please share.

Thanks again

Happy trails

Ha! I have wanted to put a power meter on my fixed gear bike. It has been cost/use prohibited. But I have been curious on the watts.

In the end a power meter doesn’t measure fun so I let it go. Put up a picture of your ride! What meter do you want?

You mean like my bike?

Power meter is going to be a little while been getting too many other things but it’s on the list

It's the adrenaline effect. When you know you can't shift into an easier gear you end up in an 'attack' mode. You feel less pain and hence able to generate more power.

Ya your right about that. Sometimes I end up passing a bunch of riders on some rolling hills not because I want to, I don’t have a choice I need to keep them cranks spinning I only have one gear haha.

Momentum/inertia helps you keep a smoother cadence through the deadspots of your pedal stroke... and also marginal losses on geared bikes. Rear derailleurs? A couple watts. Sub optimal chainlines? A couple watts. Coasting = freehub drag.

Hi
I have a Quarg power meter on mine fixed gear it's the only one that will read at low RPMs.
We do hill repeats in the winter , old style.
My power readings are all ways lower than normal even climbing 5,000 feet.
I think anywere but gone up hil you try to float your feet in the pedals , just a theory.
