It's hardly a secret any more, but those mechanical GRX mechs and brifters cost more than the Di2 equivalents to make. Looking purely at the product rather than the market, it would make sense to rush out the Di2 version. But neither they nor SRAM nor Campag are going to upset the market hierarchy and marketing which places electronic at a huge premium to mechanical, despite lower cost. So they're just pumping out the lower priced volume seller - at the higher end of the pricing scale they sell almost no GRX Di2 on the OEM market now ... SRAM have completely taken over. Even if it was launched now and was great, I doubt GRX Di2 12s would change much, SRAM AXS is so entrenched.robertbb wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 3:06 amRe-pasting this from another thread:

"The difficulties facing seemingly all corners of the cycling industry in 2023 appear to show no signs of relenting, with Shimano today reporting a 17.7 percent fall in sales of bicycle components for the first half of the year and a 40 percent drop in operating profit."
This may explain, at least to a degree, delays on certain parts and groupsets - including GRX 12 Di2, for which there's absolutely no detail or leaks. Unlike mechanical, which appears poised to drop very soon.
The bigger they are the harder they fall. I wonder what SRAM's bottom line looks like?

I have no idea, really. I'd love to see it next yeartrackflack wrote: ↑Tue Aug 01, 2023 4:40 pmAny ideas on when if not this year? Is early next year too optimistic?
What's a bet they've screwed with the shape of the spider arms juuuuust enough to make the old 11 speed (and aftermarket) rings incompatible.
Hoping there's a 165mm version of the top level crank, at least. Previously that was limited to the solid 600-series crank.

Shimano has always made each crank arm forward compatible with rings but not backwards compatible. Who's gonna buy a 12-speed crankset, remove the 12-speed chainrings, and install 11-speed chainrings. But there will be plenty of people with existing 11-speed cranksets and wanting to upgrade to 12-speed, which they are able to (provided they could find the 12-speed chainrings).
46-31 is a new combo. Is this because Shimano is making new 12-speed 2x cassettes that start with a 10T? That's news to me.

This one's killing me!!
My kingdom for an HG-compatible cassette to split the 11-36 and the 10-45. Like Apex AXS XPLR, just slightly less spacey at the low end.
11, 12, 13, 15, 17, 19, 21, 24, 28, 32, 37, 42.
There has to be a market for it, no? Must be many ppl who can't or don't want to upgrade their gravel wheels to microspline.

I'd like to use the Ingrid cassette with 2x for bikepacking, but the rear derailleur and/or shifter may be problematic.

The Ingrid cassette looks perfect, except that 409 Euros = $700 AUD (our reserve bank seems to prioritize letting inflation rip to protect the property lobby, than keep our dollar remotely competitive)
I also have a political aversion to buying Chinese when it can be avoided.
Hoping Shimano come to the party.
