I'm sure the 10-45 cassette will be usable for 1x, but not 2x; IMHO the intermediate ratios are worthless for anything vaguely road-like in any case. We really need to see whether there are mechanical 12 speed GRX levers, and also what they do about clutched RDs. Once there's actual product out there (2024-5???) we can experiment.

Re 11-42 and 2x: On bikepacking.com they often have features on "Rigs of..." before major events and there have been quite a few bikes with the 2x GRX RDs and 11-42 cassettes, and even one with 11-46(!). Jay Petervary won the Tour Divide in 2022 (or maybe 2021) using 46x30 + 11-42 and it's documented on YouTube, where he gives a run through of his complete bike + gear setup. Even the Ultegra RX RD (also rated to 34T for 2x) works fine with 11-40; I had 42x27 + 11-40 in 2019 and there was enough wrap that all gears had tension. Shimano ratings are *very* conservative!

With what? That's a 12s cassette and all previous reports indicate that 2x and SRAM long cage don't work together. Cage mod on Shimano road 12s?

50X10 on a gravel bike? Where on earth does anyone on 700C have a need for a gear that big? I live in the Dolomites and I have yet to run out of gears on a road bike using 52X11 with 700X28C. Even on gravel where there is more need to pedal on descents, I have never wanted for a higher gear. Unless you're on 650B where are you actually using a gear bigger than a World Tour rider's top gear?

You spend much less time in the small sprockets and you have a bigger chainring, so it's an efficiency win. It has nothing to do with bombing descents.

From what I've heard, components are cross compatible with road.
So battery of current gen Road works with GRX Di2, STIs of current road work with GRX derailleurs. That's pretty nice, as I really only need the Rear Mech with the clutch ...

That's to be expected I'd have thought - same was true with 11 speed Di2.

I'm waiting to see what the new GRX levers are like and if any new cassettes are being released, before deciding.
(Also waiting to see what drops from SRAM)

TrainerRoad is saying this:

new groups will be called 820 and 610
both are 12s, cross compatible and offer 1x and 2x options
1x is mullet compatible with XTR (11-51)
2x is keeping its‘ chainring sizes of 46/30 (610) and 48/31 (820)
the standard cassette is not micro-spline, with an 11-36 cassette (like on the 12s 105)

Would make sense they use their new XT Di2 derailleur

Not sure it will work with normal Di2 levers.

I don’t see why it wouldn’t, the 11s mtb di2 worked with the 11s road di2

I know. However the new 12 speed is for e-bike only. In the same way that Shimano have blocked mixing mechs from MTB & road, I would not be surprised if they block non e-bike use.

I've run it on 2 bikes, Shimano DA 12spd with long b screw as well as SRAM Red AXS w/ Wolftooth or AXS XPLR. While it is not listed as 2x compatible, AXS XPLR will work with front derailleur in my experience.

Exactly. I'd be fine with 48/34, but that's not a thing unfortunately.

You just swapped to a longer B-screw bolt and it worked on the DA12s? Pics of both setups?
