For give me for asking, but what advantage are these over your 4.5AR wheelset? 100 grams heavier and a bit more aero with even wider tires... But... is it worth it? I own the 4.5AR and I love everything about them except the weight..kode54 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 09, 2020 8:57 pmLooking at the 3T Discus 45 | 40 LTD for my next gravel wheelset.

This thread is a few years old but I'm curious how people's experiences with them have been. I want some deeper wheels for road riding, would it be worth it to buy a set of these that I put skinnier road slicks in ~32-36 and then also use my knobbier 40s for races.

Josh Poertner likes them:
SourceCase in point, the setup that has most excited me in the last few years is a 32mm Continental GP5000TR on the 3T Discus 45/40 rim. This is a 32mm tire on 29mm hooked bead with 40mm outer rim width, totally in violation of ETRTO, but exceeds the blowoff pressure of the same tire on an ETRTO approved 25mm hookless bead. In this setup the tire measures 35.5mm wide and produces a near seamless toroidal rim/tire shape which tests lower drag than most any traditional road racing wheel with 25 or 28mm tire while also showing some of the most neutral aero steering torque values of any setup I've ever seen.
Awesome, that kind of confirms my thought process but info on them (and most 3T products in general) is scarce other than press release documents. I spy a discounted "new used" set locally I'll pick up and report back in a few weeks.

or you could directly buy nextie rims or wheels , they are the same but comes directly if you buy nextie
OK, so I got that used set back then and can report back that they're great. On a flat Strava segment they're(gravel bike with gravel tires on the Discus) just as fast at the same average power as my road bike, which wasn't true of the heavier, non-aero wheels I also have.
They look very cool when you put 32mm GP5000s on them as well, but that only took 2 rides where I couldn't help myself but go on some kinda extreme gravel and got a sidewall puncture(overnight leak type luckily vs blowout). Will probably go for some Rene Herse slicks with the extralight casing for road riding it next year. On Tufo Swamperos I feel confident taking on almost any terrain.
Carbon-Ti hubs also sound very cool, I don't remember a ton about them, but back in August when I was researching I got the impression they're pretty good hubs.
