I had the same trouble of the headset loosening over and over again. Replaced the upper with a King Dropset and since about a year, no more play has developed.
Which King Dropset model/size did you buy? I can't figure out what fits.

I used the upper assembly of the Dropset 2. The lower bearing does not fit the frame. I don't know if Chris King actually sells those separate. Got mine from a guy who funnily had taken the lower bearing apart and did not manage to put it togehter again thus the upper was perfect and the lower anyhow ready for the bin. :D

Does anyone knows what cranks come as standard with crux expert? Wide or normal?

Wide
On Specialized's website it only specifies SRAM Rival 1x...doesn't mention "Wide".

Stock bikes come with wide cranks. But non-wide also fit. I do run RED cranks in the normal width.

My expert came stock with a Wide rival 1x crank. When I bought the left arm power meter, I bought the Wide version.

Does anyone make a high quality aftermarket headset for these bikes? The included headset is junk. Seems to be always a touch loose or tight.
I agree, the headset on the Crux is a joke. Plastic top cap cracked and lower bearing rusted on mine.

Wolftooth makes a perfect replacement for the top with Enduro bearings. Make sure to get the 7mm IS top cap. The 'Specialized IS top cap' is for MTB and does not fit the Crux. https://www.wolftoothcomponents.com/col ... d-standard

For the bottom, I had to order directly from Enduro: https://cycling.endurobearings.com/coll ... -405495-ss#

I have been running it through a rather moist California winter. Still good.
Hey,

I'm new to the forum, I'm waiting to receive a Crux pro 2022, reading this, I'm a bit worried, as it seems to be the recurrent problem/weak point in this bike. I have some doubts that I would appreciate if someone can clarify for me.

I am considering ordering the Wolftooth IS headset, but, as far as I know, it is not possible to use a star nut on a carbon fork tube, so my question is, have you also replaced the standard expander tube?

How many degrees are the internal and external bevels of the upper bearing, 45º? I ask this because of the possibility of changing only the compression ring, which is apparently plastic and the weakest point, for an aluminium one. What do you think about this compression ring? Would it be compatible?

I hope I have explained myself clearly.

Thanks and best regards. :beerchug:

That looks right. I swapped to one of these on day 1 and have had zero headset issues whatsoever. I also swapped out the carbon top cap for a metal one from FSA. Using the stock compression plug.

Nice, thank you, would you be so kind as to give me a link to the FSA top cap you have, so I don't have to search further.

I don’t remember the exact model because I took it from another bike. But it looks like this one:

OK, I've seen that it's a standard 1 1/8" top cap.

Quick questions to those who bought the Wolf Tooth upper: Did you have the feeling the ACB3645 bearing was a perfect, like for like fit. So same level of fit, just not as a high as the stock bearing? I'm confused because when trying it out I had the feeling the OD was too small and therefore the whole assembly wasn't really how it's supposed to be.

There are several models of the ABC3645, which one are we talking about?

https://cycling.endurobearings.com/sear ... q=ACB+3645

The dimensions of the stock bearing are:

Crux Stock Top bearing (Specialized S092500002) Campy Style, 41.8x30.5x8mm, ACB 45ºX45º
