that "perfect" gravel frameset for 2025
Moderator: Moderator Team
a throwback to that never ending quest for the perfect gravel bike [I did back in 2022 viewtopic.php?t=171202]
looking for best frameset that has:
-700x50mm tire clearance [will run 1x] or at least 47mm min
-non psycho race geometry [more comfort]
-UDH a must [building with sram red xplr]
-ideally less than 1350/1400 grams including fork
-do not care about full integration, aero, downtube storage, yada. those are bonuses but very far from must haves.
Crux seems like the no brainer, but I worry about both the aggressive position and that it'd be scary as hell to descend loose shiz on.
Stigmata is another very enticing choice, but almost opposite end of the geo spectrum where worried it's almost a mtb.
coming from a really lovely OPEN Wi.DE mullet build [Sram Red/eagle XX1 axs]
in a perfect world Open will release a wide UDH asap, but seems like that might be a minute
would love thoughts!

Just ordered one, should have it by next weekend. (GRX 1x12) Starting with 50mm rear 2.1 front tires.smartyiak wrote: ↑Wed Nov 13, 2024 11:22 pmNew Pivot Vault?

Downtube storage is great for eliminating a saddlebag, for things that are either cheap or unique to the bike (tube, levers, CO2, quicklink).
MOG is so sick but for that $ prolly just go S Works Crux no? seems heavy.hansotto089 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 13, 2024 10:46 pmCurrently in the same state of mind.

need to look at the FARA F and ARC8
Any idea of weight on this? believe the Geo is quite aggressive ?!
do they sell frameset only?smartyiak wrote: ↑Wed Nov 13, 2024 11:22 pmNew Pivot Vault?

Maybe reconsidder the Stigmata: the perception of it having MTB geo is simply marketing. If we compare the geo tables of the Mog in 54 and Stig in S, they are almost same. Just the Sitg's head angle is a lot slacker. So sizing down the Stig maybe the way to go.
I was (or am? ) in the same boat as you. Did tons of research, opened a topic on this forum as well and still couldn't make up my mind.bigevil wrote: ↑Wed Nov 13, 2024 6:46 pma throwback to that never ending quest for the perfect gravel bike [I did back in 2022 viewtopic.php?t=171202]

In the end I ordered a Tideace Noah frame for a low price as it ticks most rational boxes. But it's not a pretty bike. My second option therefore still is a Ridley Astr frame.
Difference maybe is that I don't really need a endurance geometry whereas you seem to want that more. Not sure which of the available options works best on that regard...
I can't find one, so I'm guessing no. But Pivot does have a history of selling complete builds ONLY...for the first 6mos....then offer frameset or module after that initial run is gone.bigevil wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 4:37 amMOG is so sick but for that $ prolly just go S Works Crux no? seems heavy.hansotto089 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 13, 2024 10:46 pmCurrently in the same state of mind.

I'm waiting for the Cannondale 2025 SuperX.

If you want one now, get a Tideace Noah. Bonus is that it's dirt cheap compared to all the other options. Otherwise, wait for the 2025 releases. 2024 was too soon for the mainstream brands to meet the latest requirements, but I expect we'll see quite a lot of releases in 2025.
