My first Cube peloton. Ended up on 105 5800 and some Fulcrum Quattro wheels.
Ended up selling it after buying a Spesh Tarmac a couple of years later. Then the bug really bit.

My first bike was a Raleigh Super Course. This color in a "normal" 23" size with a normal saddle to bar drop.

I eventually upgrade it all to Campagnolo parts.

My first road bike was bought in COVID which was the blue one on the left. I learnt a lot for how to service and maintain it thanks to YouTube although the headset is a bit crunchy and don't want to touch it.

I purchased a new bike a few months ago for my commute to work which is 50kms each way. It's much easier to change gears but I still ride the blue one for fun, I'm fortunate that where I work has secure bike storage in the building with no public access so I don't get worried. My new Cannondale is a 2024 model and the blue one is a 1990 model after looking through arhcives online.

This is certainly not my first road bike by any means but for sure one of the first good ones. This would be autumn 1998 and it's a 1st gen Giant TCR which I bought as frame-only then built up with Campag probably 8sp Veloce Gen1 ergopower. The home-built wheels were a very early aero rim built with bladed spokes onto Hope hubs. The pedals are those funny small road pedals Shimano did for a short while, can't remember their name now. Also to note, and for one season only, I was using Cinelli spinach bars. Position looks more long and low than I would like now.

The bike is leaning against my older brother's BMW. We had driven from England down to Marseille to ride the Les Bosses du 13 sportive. Lovely event, when I got back to the finish I found my brother with his arm in a sling. Admiring a view early doors instead of looking where he was going he'd crashed his shoulder into a parked camion and did his collar bone. I had to do all the driving on the way home.

2006 Trek 1500. Purchased in 2008 for $700. I was a huge Lance fan and was a bit bummed that my particular model didn't have the Discovery Channel logos on the frame

Built on a budget, but great fun. Pictured here a couple of years later approx 2010 (determined by GP4 seasons tyres). Shimano 600 tricolour i think. I remember it being surprisngly slick. The wheels were gifted to me and started my love affair with quality handbuilts. Tricolour hubs with Mavic open 4 CD rims if I remember correctly.

My first real road bike frame was built by Tom Ritchey in 1976. I built it with Campagnolo SR parts. The headseat was installed by Hideo Narushima at Narushima Friend in Tachikawa. I have not ridden it in decades and compared to what is available now, it's not as still as you expect. Brings back a lot of memories. Lots of lawns mowed to pay for it and lots of miles riding in Japan.

I don't have a picture of my personal one but is was one of these 105 CAAD10 with the Liquigas livery....back when bike companies would paint their low end 'serious' bikes almost as cool as the top end.
Now it seems like companies purposefully make everything but the top shelf spec to be various shades of ugly.
I got rid of it because I ride mostly dirt roads and didn't know at the time you could put tires wider than 23mm on road bikes
The frame felt AWESOME up steep climbs.

My first real roadbike, at least the first one I bought. This carbon cannondale supersix (2015/2016?) with di2 was a major step up from the aluminium Bulls bike with 105 and a triple chainring I loaned from my dad at that point. Looking back at it, this bike was a size to big for me and I never got around to shortening the steerer tube.

Not my first (which was a Nishiki touring bike), but my first really good bike. 1984 Pinarello Record with Campy NR. I bought it right before the '84 Olympics where Alexi Grewel won the road race on the same bike. I replaced the SL pedals with Look clipless when they came out. I still have it, now built with Campy 10 speed Record and Fulcrum clincher wheels instead of the sewups.
