Do you happen to have an ETA?
Before TdF?
Yes, rumored to be the week before TdF.

Curious to see what improvements the new unit will have vs the 1040. The 1040 for me has been flawless, great battery life and smooth operation. The current screen for me does what it needs to do, show data, clear, and easy to read. Sure a higher DPI screen would be welcomed but highly doubt it will have an OLED.

I dun mind having the same transflective technology but maybe at least the contrast of 840/540 plus the rumored higher resolution. The 1040 screen looks washed out at night but great under sunlight. The slanted lap start-stop keys orientation is welcome (or necessary given the longer body). But yea... the 1040 firmware, after two years of debugging, is finally mature enough that I don't wanna endure the same again with new unit. I bet 1050 early adoptors would feel it ;)

Please bring back support for Varia Vision 😭 am I the only one who cares about this?
Won't happen until they release a new version - which won't happen until they think it's good enough to go mainstream. I'd guess another 3-5 years.

Curved display that nobody asked for, but I bet it still won't show live segments while navigating a course

Any rumours about an updated Varia? I'm looking to get one but want to wait until it comes with usb c

The current screen is perfectly capable of displaying fonts too small for reading while thrashing over a bumpy road at highly irresponsible velocity. Even when laying down the watts on Watopia. Higher DPI would be nice to have, but not worth sacrificing any other quality.

This worked for me on my last navigated ride. Of course you have to have the segment starred before creating the route. You could verify that the segments are embedded by pulling up the route on your head unit, select maps, and see if the start/end points show up on the map (purple flags). AFAIK the issue is not solely on Garmin but rather something to do with Strava as well. The two of them was supposed to work out a permanent and reliable solution.

live segments is on/off for me. The longer stuff it seems to always work, but some of my shorter ones never popup.

Are you talking about live segment while navigating or not navigating? There's a known issue with live segments while navigating but I'm not aware of an issue while not navigating.

not navigating.. I've made a few segments on sprints for the weekend fun as a reminder when to go.. since I have a habit of going early.

While not navigating I've had issues with live segment 'endings' but never 'starting'. Sometimes when I finish a live segment I don't get a reported time. I always get reliable 'starts' on live segments. Weird.
