Value of Colnago C60 Sea Otter Edition
Moderator: robbosmans
Dear all, I have been checking out weightweenies for the last few years for very useful information on road bikes, especially high end stuff. Recently registered a account because will like to solicit opinions on buying a Colnago C60.
There is a used Colnago C60 frameset available for US$1200 and definitely attractive option.
Another option is a limited edition Sea Otter Colnago C60 frameset with Super Record group + seatpost saddle + stem handlebar but no wheels. Owner says only used for display so far and never actually ridden, as good as new. Any opinion of reasonable range of value for this Sea Otter C60 without Bora wheels? Thank you

Is this mechanical/electrical or 11/12 speed. That will have an impact on the price/value. These frames are 8 coming 9 years old and ebay seems to price complete bikes with wheels in the £4-5000 range so about $5-6000 so without wheels I would be looking at at least 1k less than that. But as little as you can pay for it obviously. If it's negotiation then you start low and they will start high.

I have two c60s. It is a great riding bike (light, stiff and not too harsh).
$1,200 for the used frame sounds pretty good. Note that the RD cable stop is removable, so make sure it's there.
Other than the direct mount brakes, the Sea Otter is nothing special. Figure $2,000-3,000 for the frameset and $1,500 for everything else.
Between those two, I'd lean towards the used frameset and Campy 12s mechanical.

As stated above, ask for the documents; even from a resale point of view, having the documents (and the whole box) matters a lot with these frames.
Is that an average Spez-rider posing next to the cyclist?joeyb1000 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2023 2:43 pmI have two c60s. It is a great riding bike (light, stiff and not too harsh).

Do you prefer to cross your gear cables in the downtube and have them away from the headtube or have them snug against the headtube uncrossed?joeyb1000 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2023 2:43 pmI have two c60s. It is a great riding bike (light, stiff and not too harsh).

Thank you to everyone for sharing your knowledge and inputs. An update:
I checked the past threads here on fake C60 and compared to the framset and it seem fine. In the 2 months I was considering, the seller lowered the price from US$1200 to 820 and throw in 3T alloy stem/handlebar who fit me and agree to help me clean and re-install back the pre-2015 SR/Record mixed groupset that I bought from him for $600 in Oct 2023.
For wheels, I will probably use the DT Swiss 190 28/28 that I got in a clearance sale for $370 and laced it to Hplusson SL42 for that "Black Shamal" look.
I was surfing a bit on older Colnagos and it seem like C40 frameset alone is already around US$1000 to 1000 euro? And there seem to be buyers because they keep getting sold. Guess C40 is probably more valuable due to its age, but I like it that I pay 20% less for a frame that is 20 years younger.

C40, especially the earlier models were the most delicate, especially for the alu bits like dropouts.
Value can go from 700 euro to 1500 for a Mapei one easily.
