The recently released D2 Force AXS shifters are NOT backwards compatible with 11spd Red etap. I emailed SRAM customer care to confirm. So I doubt the next gen Red AXS shifters will be backwards compatible with 11spd etap components.

The T-Type chain is 5mm wide just like the road flattop chain. The Ekar chain is 4.9mm.
Source video below. At 1:17. You can see him measure external width to be 4.89mm which is about 4.9mm (Ekar chain width).

I've used nothing but 16-17 tooth difference at the crank for almost 3 years. The current force and rival can both do it.

It is pretty odd that the most outdate SRAM groupset is RED. With Force/Rival/Apex all updated we have RED showing its age.

I must be old. I'm perfectly happy with my Red eTap. Shifts great, battery life is fine and I like the looks. Brakes stop very well too!

It's an old groupset and will be updated imminently.

I just have a good memory for posts from the anti-SRAM bigots around here. That was a joke too BTW.

I think he's talking about the even older 11-speed Red eTap. The Force update was mainly cosmetic with no new innovation. Maybe they're waiting to unleash a real game changer. Anything less is going to be a damp squib after all this time.

I don't see it as feasible for them to go to TdF WITH jumbo visma and going with the outdated hoods. Thus, vingegaard for instance is already using the force style hoods.

Shimano sold dura ACE 11s while force and red 12s without any penalty, even pros(non sponsored teams) preferred 11s Shimano over axs 12s.

Not many people will be worried about "old" or "new" red, it's still top of the range groupset
