Yep that's the usual timeline for Specialized's flagship road bike release. They never miss a beat with that. Annoucement either comes just a week before The Tour Stage1 or slightly a few days prior.

Things is bike shops have loads of sl7 still backordered - is sl8 goes to public market in 2023, it won’t help small and local professionals

They must make wider bars with shorter stem - 440/90.. That narrow bar/long stem trend is a gimmick and will just chronically tighten your wrists, elbows and shoulders/neck over time.
Literally noone buying this bike, or any aero one-piece barstem has 44cm wide acromion-to-acromion shoulders. Any hope of aero is lost with a 44cm wide bar.

If they cater to the mass market, the widest handlebar available stock would be 40cm, for L & XL frames.
Chill out, roughly 15% of the US male population has shoulders wider than 44, and 27% wider than 43.

And a 0% chance anyone could ever detect a speed difference between a 36 and 44 bar on their bike. Handlebar size should be a matter of control and comfort, or so I thought.

Handlebar width has an effect on a lot of things that are hitting clean air at the front of the bike. The difference between 44 and 36 is massive.

I would challenge anyone to NOT notice the difference at 30mph.

Indeed, there is zero/0w difference if you set up wide bars correct.

Even if you have no rider on the bike wide bars aren't as aero. Between 36 cm and 44 cm bars there's 8 more cm of bar in the wind. Sure the difference without a rider won't be massive but it is there. Now throw a rider on top of the bike and you can see the difference without even a wind tunnel.

People have hard time staying on topic because there is nothing to discuss regarding the topic.
