Not sure when and where but I have seen an Open bike with damaged brake hose before. I think it was a Shimano build.

I'm following this with interest as I have a vroomen designed 3T racemax with eKar fitted.

I'd be inclined to trust campag over open/3t

Does he have a particularly bad track record of poor design?

Just checked the rear brake hose on my ekar 3T.... looks dodgy as f**k

I'll be getting the opinion of a bike mechanic at the weekend.

Kind of. The 3T Exploro is an innovative bike, except for the dumb top tube cable routing and the previous gens where you had to remove the RD hanger to remove the wheel. Also OPEN has had myriad QC issues. Although the bike rides great the FD chain drop issues, the carbon layup quality, the seat tube warping, etc etc is a bit much for a top of the line carbon bike (or was top of the line).

Combine that with the disaster of the 3T Strada and you have not the best recent track record.

On the UP/UPPER the internal cabling port near the head tube is idiotically placed/designed/angled. While it looks slick, if you give the proper cable slack to the right lever/rear brake (ie non-UK setup) then when you turn the handlebars any further than 45deg off center it puts a ton of stress on the cable as it bends at the port (like what was shown in the Rides of Japan vid). If you leave the cable short enough to not cause such a bend then you can't rotate the bar more than about 45deg to the right. For most riding you'll never really rotate the bar that far, but slow manuevers are out of the question if so.

Oh wow I had no idea he designed those 3T bikes as well. I've seen a couple threads on here of people putting in tons of effort to mitigate those routing issues.

As for the OPEN bikes I always assumed they were of exceptional quality from the way ROJ talked about his. I guess I missed that part about the headtube cabling.

Thanks for the insight!
