Mixed groupsets: etiquette/aesthetics

Huh, I didn't know that. I knew she used a Farsports barstem, which I happen to have chosen for this build as well. Unfortunately I can't claim to have a math doctorate 😂

I run a stripped Red Exo crank on a DA bike and it looks great. Once stripped, they blend in with anything really.

Ages ago when I had my very first wired Srm it was a Shimano 7800 which I matched to a Sram Red 10s.
I felt very stupid at first but then I realised very few people cared or noticed that.

There is hopefully no etiquette for this.
I am running dura ace pedals with axs gruppo and I don't hesitate because they are probably best on market.
If you are concerned you can sand down sram red cranks and paint them black.
I would rather get clavicula se and some power pedals instead.

I hate srm. The battery change is pita, design ugly, heavy and needs to be calibrated almost every ride. One of my friends had to rma srm twice.Geoff wrote: ↑Wed Feb 15, 2023 11:20 pmIf you ride 170s, there is this: http://dev.srm.de/refurbished-demo-sale ... ndard.html

11 speed is much better for this, 12 speed Shimano is quite sensitive for different cranks so you choose between lightness and worse shifting vs good shifiting and porky Dura Ace cranks.
This is one thing I'm worried about. The 12 speed Shimano chainline is 44.5, Red is 45.5, Clavicula is 43.5. But lots of factors, including chainring spacing, tooth profile and dishing of the rings.
Has any selfless WW done comparative testing of 3rd party cranks and rings for Shimano 12 speed?
I found her setup perticularly interesting as she was not a sponsored athlete and had some unusual choices like the Farsports barstem. I'm not sure why she chose the SRAM crank as it's really not much lighter than the standard Dura Ace crank, my guess is it was something along the lines of she wanted a different crank arm length and that's what she had laying around. Pro riders use whatever gear they are told - and from who sponsored the teams they ride for. I think it would be really interesting to see what riders would choose if they were given a $30K allowance per season to build two identical bikes (#1 bike and #2 bike) to race on that season. What would they choose?
There is a guy in my club who obviously watches too much GCN (not that I don't like some GCN myslef) but he has an Orbea bike, DMT shoes - both of which I have never seen in the part of the US where I live. He's got a Giro helmet Selle Italia saddle, and wears Castelli clothes. - nothing wrong with any of that, but I just hope he knows they use the gear the sponsors pay for them to use, and might not choose that same gear if they had their choice.

I don't know precisely what she uses, but a Red crankset without PM should be lighter than DA. I think it should be even lighter with a spider based PM, with the added bonus that the PM in this case would work properlyMocs123 wrote: I'm not sure why she chose the SRAM crank as it's really not much lighter than the standard Dura Ace crank
And of course, a SRAM crank does not crack or debond like DA.

She used Assioma pedal based power meters so perhaps she did do it for weight savings.AndreLM wrote: ↑Fri Feb 17, 2023 4:22 pmI don't know precisely what she uses, but a Red crankset without PM should be lighter than DA. Any specific reason to choose eagle chain?bikeboy1tr wrote: ↑Thu Feb 16, 2023 1:27 amI have a mix of parts on most my bikes. The V2R rim is running etap 11sp with DA cranks and Rotor inner/AB outer and I think it looks good. The V2R disc has AXS red now but it did have Campy Rec/SR mix but I did stick with the Campy crank/P2M 12sp and swapped the rest of the group for the AXS. I think it looks even better and it works flawlessly. So the point is if it works and you like the looks, go for it.
Sram dub or other 30mm axle cranks are not fun on a bb86 frame.AndreLM wrote: ↑Fri Feb 17, 2023 4:22 pmI don't know precisely what she uses, but a Red crankset without PM should be lighter than DA. Shimano, campagnolo or rotor24 cranksets for my bb86 frames. Threaded I'm ok with 30mm axle.

I was about to say that crankset are not really a « faux pas » in terms of etiquette as you mention, then I read you were installing it on a Cannondale and my personal opinion would be to install an hollowgram.
