Occasionally some bike companies will describe the different type of carbon used in premium frames, e.g. more use of higher tensile, lighter but more brittle carbon. I may be mis-recalling but Pinarello sometimes uses Torayca numbers, T700 or T1000 or T1100, where a higher number supposedly is better. Gerald Vroomen kind of made fun of this on the OPEN website.
Yes, he have done that alot. However, he also doesn't like to put much money into anything. So, perhaps we can suspect that Open rather make bikes as cheap as possible?
Bikes:

Ax Lightness Vial EVO Race (2019.01.03)
Open *UP* (2016.04.14)
Paduano Racing Fidia (kind of shelved)

Ex bike; Vial EVO D, Vial EVO Ultra, Scott Foil, Paduano ti bike.

Well, his idea seems to build budget minded. He also writes about building his own bikes with no bells and whistles.
Kind of wondered why they did a more expensive version of mind. Maybe he suddenly saw the boom due to people with big pockets.
That clip when he makes fun of brands like Pinarello (as an example), that was before california named mind were released.
First venture into a more expensive bike was Upper. It's clear that he noted that people actually ask for more luxury versions as he progressed with the california version.
My guess is he might not make such fun of other expensive bikes now.
I bought my up very early and i remember well his stance about bikes, costs and those "funny" video clips.
I got my up april 2016, but that was because i waited for my wheels half a year. Otherwise i've had it late 2015.

Even Ax Lightness could tell me what they did from Gen 1 Vial EVO to the version i now have.
I don't ask for an x-ray or blue print, just some short description.
What was that short description?
Ax?
New layups,
Right, so how is that any different to what Cannondale have told you?

You know he was still running Cervelo when they developed the R5CA right?

New layup and different resin is what Cannondale have said. How is that different?

It was twice as expensive as the Upper and it came first? I thought that was pretty self explanatory :noidea:

As a part of Cervelo i think he had not been making that video as he did with Open.
When Open got an idea, wait, we can make higher end version as there's obviously a demand for it, i don't see why he would make fun of other brands having large scale sales of primary higher end.
Open - small
Cervelo - not so small

Pinarello are probably profiled towards those who have more money to spend. When they started Open i doubt those ideals were even existing.

umm, Open opened (pun intended) by selling a $10,000 (if fully built) hard tail lightweight mountain bike...I saw it and Gerald and Andy at Sea Otter. Asked about the price, Gerald made an analogy to a Ferarri. I didn't mean that Gerald at Open was against high end, high priced bikes -- rather, he's made fun of the use of terminology like high tensile. And say what you will about the UP and then the UPPER, the quoted frame weight savings for the latter, higher priced version is 180 grams. That might be worth the extra price for a weight weenie trying to hit a weight target. If Open has backtracked on anything, it's that it now also sells complete bikes. That's understandable given component shortages; it's probably easier for a bike company to get parts than a consumer.

ADDED: you may be right about Gerald making fun of high end vanity models, it's just not what I have seen or referred to. That would be strange of him as Cervelo pioneered that strategy -- R2 vs. R3 vs. R5 vs. R5CA, S2 vs. S3 and later S5.

When someone receives a LAB71 frameset, could you please list (or post photos of) what the frameset comes with? i.e. does it come with the ceramicspeed threaded BB?

Friend just got one and he was given a choice of bb to build with, so I presume the bb isn't included in the frameset purchase

I don't think the bottom bracket could be included for a threaded bottom bracket interface like the BSA used on the new bike -- doesn't the full bottom bracket depend on the crank? Although your point is 100% right for the S-Works Tarmac SL6, which used a press fit bottom bracket and came with Ceramicspeed bearings to pop in.

I'm going to try to post some more pictures now of the frame including the threaded bracket interface.
