I am interested how it keeping up against the other obvious choices like the Tarmac SL6 and SL7, Canyon Ultimate etc regarding aero?

I am on the edge on buying an Emonda SL5. I know it is heavy as f***, but it would be only bike number three besides my Checkpoint and Epic HT.

I'd wager that if you spent your money on a good road deep wheelset and other components on the Checkpoint, you'd have a lighter and possibly more aero bike than you would if you just bought the Emonda SL5 and kept it as stock.

The thing is I already have a light road wheelset. 45 mm carbon mit 240 DT Swiss EXP weighing 1300 g with a Red XPLR cassette that I intended to use with the Checkpoint.

My Checkpoint is already tuned to the max with SRAM Red XPLR and LightBycicle Wheelset and Carbon parts. It weighs 8,6 kg. The thing is, that is looks shit with the road wheelset and handles not very road bike like because of the 43,5 cm chainstays.

I think with carbon everything and Ultegra DI2 I could get the Emonda down to may 7,6 kg.

I've got the SLR. With 60mm wheels its a rocket and 7kg all up.

Just need to look at the front profile of the frame/fork- its got to be within the margin of error aero wise as the other all rounders.

Well, it´s not an aero bike, so don´t expect much.
224w as standard, 222w on Zipp 404.

Not sure how a deep wheel like a 404 can be only 2 watts faster than the lightweight 37mm wheels that come stock...

It´s not about wheels alone or frame alone. They didn´t test wheels separately, they tested bikes, so it´s about interaction between wheels, frame, fork, etc.
If a whole unit is ´not fast´ then even Zipp 808 wouldn´t shave many watts off.

Is this 2023 Ultimate or the older model?

Should be the older model. I don´t see much improvement regarding aero in 2023 model anyway.
