“Different” new Madone (2023)

I went SL7 for the Ultegra and wider wheels but the bike is amazing, super fast and supremely comfortable. I did add an SLR bar to mine too. Would highly highly recommend the new Madone based on the performance, and it has a very unique look which you love or hate. It's not the lightest out there but in the real world 99.9% of us aren't going to notice even a few pounds of weight difference, let alone a few hundred grams

That build you have is a perfect combination, but I decided to not go over 7k$, as I am not racing etc. I just want to make sure I am not loosing many watts on the speedy solo rides. The wheels on the sl6 are throwing me off

Where are you located? I know some shops are doing deals, I got my SL7 at 10% off so $5850 USD so maybe worth trying to wheel and deal. Bought the bars used for $250 frmo a buddy (and there are several sets on eBay around 300-400USD). The stock SL Cockpit is nice, I was just wanting to bling it up a bit. The SL7 wheels are notably nicer than the SL6 and were a bigger deciding factor in the purchase than 105 vs Ultegra. The bike is definitely fast unless you are doing a lot of steeper climbs, with a decent fitness level and most of my climbs being under 8* grade, the aero still outweighs the weight penalties. The bike feels notably more stable in crosswinds than my old round tubed Emonda with the same size 50mm wheel

For reference going from the SL 100mm stem and non-integrated aero bar, to the SLR bar in an identical length and width saved 145g. I also saved 128g going from the Aeolus Comp to the Aeolus RSL saddle (bought used for $100). It helps offset the 120g weight gain I had moving to tubeless 28c GP5KSTR

About a speed/watts again. Did you figure out already how much faster you are on a madone than your old emonda? is it significant(I mean 2-3kmph would be great) or something that can be omitted?

Very hard to say how much faster as I haven't ridden them back to back but I will say with SIMILAR conditions I did a 2.5ish minute Strava segment doing 330w on the Madone and went only 2 seconds slower than I did at 370w on the Emonda, but the conditions were not identical. I will say it feels much faster, except if I'm out of the saddle on a steeper climb. It feels MUCH faster descending, and even though the Gen 7 SLR doesn't have the best stiffness scores according to Tour mag (and I presume the SL is the same or less stiff), I have a ton of confidence cornering (more than on the Emonda), the bike feels solid and stable, and this softer chassis is super smooth and comfortable. Really with their 30 day guarantee you can buy the bike worry free, and if you hate it just take it back. I did hear they might charge a cleaning fee, so check with your shop. The bike overall exceeded my expectations, I expected it to be better than the Emonda but it's MUCH better than I expected it to be

This thing looks absolutely insane next to a "normal" bike, but still looks more classic than dropped seatstays bikes IMO. My SL with a few SLR bits

Has anyone had a chance to ride both the SL and SLR (current generation or past ones)? Due to some paint issues I was able to request an SLR warranty replacement frame for my SL (at a small cost) and wondering what differences/improvements I can expect? I'm not going to feel the 200g weight difference but wonder if the ride or responsiveness will be different. I am also moving to the RSL51 wheels from the Pro51 at the same time and I've been told that's going to make more of a difference, and likely make it impossible to isolate differences in the frames

I was very happy with my SL but due to repeated issues with the paint and the lack of availability of other colors I liked in the SL I went for an Axinite Flip SLR frameset

SLR7 with RSL51 wheels, size 56 in Axinite Flip comes in at 7.5kg on my baby scale (accuracy tested vs a kitchen scale). 120g added weight from the non-stock tires and tubeless conversion. Paint is absolutely stunning and hard to photo. At 80kg the weight weenieism isn't much of a concern but the bike is absolutely stunning and gets me hype to ride, which historically has meant more for my fitness than saving a few grams from a frame for something I think is ugly *SL8*

Initial ride impressions compared to my outgoing Madone SL7 Gen 7 - SL was smoother but a bit lazier feeling in acceleration. SLR feels more race, SL feels more touring. I had no functional problems or qualms with my SL but after repeated issues with the gray paint I was given the opportunity to upgrade to an SLR through warranty (already had the SLR cockpit used from a friend on my SL too) and decided to move away from the gray paint.
