My sample size in our team is about 10-20 edge 530 and 830, no problems with gps lock. Takes 1-5 sec outside, wouldnät worry about that. 540 and 840 are probably even faster.
Thanks, I wasn't aware! Does it work well?Eterna7m wrote: ↑Tue Mar 28, 2023 8:56 amYou can do that on the 1040s already

No problems at all with the GPS lock on my 530; the altimeter, on the other hand . . . .
No problems ever with GPS-lock on my 830....it locks faster then I'm away on my bike... And the 1040 is even faster !

I tried a 1040 and even with the updated UI it still felt dated compared to my Karoo. I don't ride with a power meter, I ride for enjoyment and fitness rather than 'training' for anything, and my rides are usually 4 hours or less, so the battery life isn't a factor for me personally. The Karoo screen still has the pull to keep me there.
You can also do it on the EE2Torbjorn wrote: ↑Tue Mar 28, 2023 9:03 amThanks, I wasn't aware! Does it work well?Eterna7m wrote: ↑Tue Mar 28, 2023 8:56 amYou can do that on the 1040s already
This is the first time I've heard this. I'm not disagreeing, but can you elaborate?TobinHatesYou wrote: ↑Mon Mar 27, 2023 9:21 pmFor example, metal out-front mounts are worse than plastic or carbon.
Devices with radios mounted directly underneath on a combo mount also hurt accuracy. GoPros, Fly12s, ANT+ enabled lights, etc.
On the surface, it doesnt make much sense as except say on mountaintop, the satellites will always have a straight line to the internals of the Garmin without passing through the mount, and even then its unlikely as the mount only covers a small part of the underside of the device, prob less than half with lots of overhang of device.
I've been running plastic on the road bike and metal on the gravel bike for years and haven't noticed a difference. But again, I'm not discounting, just would like to hear the details of what you have seen or read on the topic. thanks.

Wondering when the 540/840 will be available to purchase, anyone got any insights?
My Karoo 2 was run over by a car. A pity since it was a nice unit for me. I used a Bolt for like 5-6 years prior to that. Great unit but a bit dated for exploring stuff compared to the Karoo 2.
I borrowed a 1030 and it's actually quite decent. Decent enough to not buy a 1040 and decent enough to hold out for a Karoo 3 which I think is the unit to hold out for.
Wahoo hasn't really delivered with the new units although I do like the simplicity and user experience they offer.

My assumption is multipath reflections from the Garmin’s own radio transceiver increasing SNR.thumper88 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 28, 2023 4:53 pmThis is the first time I've heard this. I am thinking the same; Karoo releases 2017, 2020.calleking wrote: ↑Tue Mar 28, 2023 7:46 pmMy Karoo 2 was run over by a car. A pity since it was a nice unit for me. I used a Bolt for like 5-6 years prior to that. Great unit but a bit dated for exploring stuff compared to the Karoo 2.

I own a roam; it's fine but could be far better. I was waiting for a 840 but now thinking K3. Will wait and see reviews.
