Here is a very blurry photo what is rumoured to be the Karoo 3. The yellow button in the corner of the screen is the same of the current Karoo which makes it plausible. It looks a bit wider and thinner with much smaller bezels.

Looks like a Karoo 2 to me.

if you mean the gadget on the stem (not the thing on the out front mount) it is, Chris Froome uses and promotes it.

It *looks* like bezels are smaller. But I think it's the photo, not the product.

Karoo wont be any good for pros and serious cyclist unless the add at least 75% battery life. 20h with map data is a base requirement for me, and I don't think they'd be able to achieve that with a 300ppi color screen and a quad processor.

Which pro rides 10h+ rides a lot? Almost nobody :)

Agree that more battery life is a big want, but even with the current battery life most people will be fine, including almost all pros and serious cyclists.

I think they can easily do 15h. 20h would probably involve some compromise on size and weight.

The chipset they use is really old and inefficient in the Karoo 2. It also takes up too much room in the device for 99.5% of riders (those who don't use a SIM in it). Screen's old too. Batteries they used in both Karoo 1 and 2 are very cheap.

If they improve those things, and move to a newer version of Android with better power management, then there's huge scope for improvement.

I heard release in mid-April. These are unofficial claims of course.

Yes, don't expect crazy features. As usual it will follow the 1040.

Most importantly though pricing is going up a lot even for the standard non solar version...

Haven't seen a picture but it should be slightly bigger still than the current models.

Bigger concern is whether or not Garmin managed to fix the crazy amount of bugs that existed in the 1040. It was unbelievable. I gave up playing bug roulette with their beta releases and sent my 1040 back to Garmin. Returned to using the 830 because it is rocksolid reliable despite the somewhat dated tech inside it. I'm intrigued by an 840, but not unless they have stable reliable software.

The garmin forums have been one thing after another since the 1040 release.

fwiw 830's monitor is one generation newer than 1040 judging from the contrast ratio. I guess Garmin is trying too hard to reuse the OS to build new features just to get parity with the competition. Why can't they just build new Edge with the OS of their watches? The look and feel is much better than the Edge.

I would highly encourage the people impatient about a 840/540 to take a serious look at the Edge Explore 2. With sensor support, intervals and the new ui it could be everything you wanted. It certainly is for me, and it's fairly priced
