Why not mix Ultegra & 105? All you’d need from Ultegra would be the levers. Everything else from 7100 would be fine. Job done.

the R8100 rim brake levers are basically rebadged 8000 di2 levers. i wouldn't be surprised if they could be updated for 12 speed by firmware?

"Basically", with different di2 ports for the 12 speed smaller wiring system...

Should be able to, but shimano won't do that.

They could make a small adapter/converter from the old cables to the new ones.

The only thing stopping ST-6770 and ST-R785 from shifting 12 speed Di2 is a EW-AD305 adapter and a couple lines of code

In older firmware, FD-6770 used to work with 11 speed RDs before Shimano removed that functionality

I think @cheapvega suggested using ST-R8150 rim brake STI with RD-R7150/FD-R7150/FC-R7100/CS-R7100

It will be interesting to compare street prices and weight of ST-R8150+BR8100 vs ST-R7170+BR-R7170+rotors

NSS! It was a given that I meant STR8150 levers.

As for saving up for 8050, I wouldn’t bother. The price ain’t coming down any time soon. Common parts with Dura Ace like batteries, cables & junction boxes are becoming harder to find. Cassettes are even worse. Second hand stuff is commanding almost retail.

Save up for Ultegra R8150 levers and save yourself the grief of spares in the future.

Do we know if the hood buttons on the new Ultegra shifters will work with the new 105 rd to allow you to change up / down the cassette? Or would you need a Ultegra rd for this function?

that function is a matter of the levers, the derailleurs does not matter

It is so ridiculous to announce any new products with delivery dates from 2024!

That delay is astonishing; I know that there are issues with suppliers, etc., but certainly it cannot be that much different to machine a 52 tooth chainring vs. a 50 tooth chainring. Is this a mistake?

well, if you wanna compare shimano to competitors.. they have competing product.
Fact that you cannot purchse it for another 500-600 days is not a big deal.
