Well, the official compatibility chart says no, but I suppose you could try it, with the understanding that it may not work.violino wrote: ↑Sat Oct 29, 2022 8:37 amHi,
since new calipers (br-r7170/8170) are now officially compatible with previous generation STIs (st-r7020/8020 so even regardless of servo wave), do you think it would be worth a shot to try e.g. br-r7170 with even older st-rs685 (this one actually has servo wave) non-series Ultegra level STI?

I have gone from Ultegra Di211 to 12, I don't notice any difference from 8070 to 8170...........with the new calipers, you gain that 10% extra space and bleeding is more efficient......
Has anyone actually installed the br8170 calipers on 11s di2?
I managed to accidently find them on sale so pulled the trigger considering price alone and easier bleeding, still not sure about the 10% clearance but I guess we'll see.

And did you read this thread? Yes, better clearence mentioned many times, not only here.
Marketing?

Are they much of an improvement in terms of clearance?Conradsleight wrote: ↑Sat Aug 27, 2022 4:02 pmCan anyone advise on what the verdict is on the new brake calliper clearance compared to 9170?
I just got a Factor Ostro built up on a 9170 groupset and already running into rubbing issues. Wondering if it's worth upgrading the callipers for the extra brake clearance?

And it is not marketing, bigger space for rotors truly exists.

It works just fine. I have the 9270 calipers installed with 8070 levers. I have installed 8170 calipers for a few friends with 80xx/91xx levers.
Yes, the clearance is real. Many people are looking at the bleed block width being the same and assuming the clearance claims are BS, but the clearance comes from the piston retraction.
Yes, it works just fine .
Personally, I think the extra clearance is great... but it's still very little. Sure, there's 10% extra clearance and that's cool... but 10% of next-to-nothing is still next-to-nothing .

In Aussie parlance, we call that extra clearance "a bee's dick"
Where'd you find them on sale?
Did you try to use ST-9270 shifters with BR-R9170 calipers ? Good result ?Maddie wrote: ↑Fri Oct 08, 2021 10:45 amI was a bit surprised that Shimano gives official clearance to using old stis with new calipers. But that's good news. I will try the opposite and build new stis together with 9170 calipers. It is very very rare that I have the known tingtingting after descents so I believe I don't really need new calipers and can get away with the old ones. But I do like the better modulation of my grx levers (with servo) and I hope this will transfer to my 9270 levers and 9170 calipers. Might take a while to find out though...

Will the DA-9200 crankset and chainrings work with the 11-speed front and rear derailleur and cassette? I assume it will but am curious if anyone has experience with this. I already run the 12-speed chain on my DA-9100 setup
