Hi Guys,

It seems like the Roval Rapide aero bar 40cm has vanished from the face of the earth. It's not in stock anywhere. Any advice? I'm in currently in Switzerland.

Such a dilemma between choosing a size 56 or 58 S works Tarmac SL7.

I am 1,87 m tall, inseam 907mm. Always have riden 56 frames in Specialized (Allez Sprint, Aethos, S works SL6), never 58. Only the Canyon Ultimate in size L and the Supersix evo in 56 i have had felt a bit ‘larger’ then the specialized bikes. I am a bit afraid that the climbing performance will be different on a 58 vs 56. On the flats, i sometimes think a 58 would better fit me as I am not the most flexible person on planet earth.

This was my setup (after retul) on a SL6 back in 2021 Image

The SL7 is just about identical in geo to the SL6. Why would you change sizes if the 56 SL6 was working for you?

Pros of 58: you could likely slam your stem.
Cons: it's heavier, and you'd have to fiddle around to get the same fit.

I'm 1.92m and was on the fence between the 61cm and 58cm. I ending up going with the 58cm and am very glad I did. I agree with LanceLegStrong, if the SL6 felt good, and from the pictures the position looks pretty good, why change? It is fairly easy to work on your flexibility, not so easy to swap out a frame. And though we generally should not seek to imitate the pros, you will notice they tend to go down in size not up.

As the others said, if you are good with a 56 and that is known then that's great. With a 58 you would need to adjust fit a bit, which could be good or bad.

For what it's worth I'm 6'1" / 1.85M and was trying to decide between 56 and 58, and ended up going with a 58. I slammed the stem and it fits exacly as I would want it. It's a full factory SRAM build and the weight with Shimano 105 pedals (will upgrade eventually!), Wahoo Bolt & mount + two bottle cages + rear light came to 16.36lbs / 7.42kg.

It seems that you have a spacer stack of around 50mm below the stem.
For me that indicates a 58 would be a much better choice.
Eventhough I guess you cannot use that much spacers on a SL7 or at least
it is not recommended.

By the way is your current SL6 a stock design?

Hi Guys,

It seems like the Roval Rapide aero bar 40cm has vanished from the face of the earth. It's not in stock anywhere. Any advice? I'm in currently in Switzerland.

Those are inaccurate. I have already called these. They are not in stock at these locations.

Ah gotcha. Sometimes it is off from actual inventory, but that's how I've sourced my rapide bars. You can also try other aeras in the EU on there, and if they have it they will likely ship it to you.

Issue is, that's not a very long stem, and moving up in size will also increase reach. All a balancing act.

Interesting how much bodies differ. His inseam is 907mm at 1,87cm tall, my inseam is the same at 1,95cm tall.
Result is a similar saddle height but I have a slammed 120mm stem on a size 61.
I'm going 58cm eventually on a 130mm stem with some spacers under I think.
Sounds crazy at first for 1,95cm tall, but with my inseam I think it makes sense. Plus long stems look nice...\

As for my recommendation: get a 56cm bike that has a shorter reach and taller stack. Supersix seems to be a good option with it being ~20mm taller stack and ~8mm shorter reach. This will let you lose 20mm of spacers and get a longer stem. The 58cm SL7 will feel bigger than the 56 supersix or ultimate

Cheers all for your input. Very much appreciated and very useful to read different views upon my question
@Asetek custom bike inspired by the Wilier Astana edition 2 years ago... i just could not get used to the black stripe on the seattube :D and the guy put the S-works logo a bit more towards the front.
