What handlebar in the 160-180 gram range?
Moderator: robbosmans
I'm looking to lighten my TCR SL by swapping the current Mavic Cosmic carbon SL UST's (1490 grams) to Bontrager XXX 2 clinchers which come in at 1305 grams. The cockpit, Enve SES Aero 420mm (250 grams), Giant carbon Flux 100mm stem (150 grams), will be replaced with the new Extralite 1.25", 100mm, 80 gram stem, with a 400mm, 160-180 gram range bar. The bike currently sits at 14.03 LBS with Speedplay Ti pedals and Tune bottle cages. Looking to drop the bike in the 13-lbs range with pedals and bottle cages. What bar do you guys recommend?
Bianchi Oltre XR4, De Rosa SK Pininfarina, Trek Madone SLR, Giant TCR Advanced SL, Cervelo R5 Disk, Giant Revolt
3T Superergo LTD size 40 165g claimed. Not sure about the reach/drop figures you need tho.

My Aeronova Team 38 (1st gen graphics) is 211g, which is 6g heavier than claimed. I'll take that for what it is.

Haero have two bars. The more expensive H 145 RR SL and the cheaper H145 RR.
It's 150 Euro difference between these, both same shape and measurements.
Size 40 in Haero is 37.6cm C-C over hoods.
Size 42 is 39.6cm.
My own size 44 weight is 153 grams (H 145RR SL)
You should consider reach on the bars before you buy a new stem.
Darimo (80mm reach) as an example, have 1cm more reach than Haero (70mm reach).
BTW, i have an Extralite stem. No matter what they say, my handlebars flex way more with this stem than with a "normal stem".
Personally, i'd rather use my other stems than Extralite. It's most obvious if you sprint and take corners.

That may be true but I recently bought the Superleggara LTD and it was right on the claimed weight of 166g for the 42cm, to the gram.icantaffordcycling wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2019 6:06 amFrom what I have read on this forum, 3T bars almost always come significantly overweight
In reference to the OP, if you like a traditional bar shape, that would be my reccomendation. The 40cm version is 160g.
Sloping frames almost never suit traditional bar shapes unfortunately. Best quality ergo style bar is Schmolke os evo SL- around 170g and very stiff and well made. If you’re prepared to give up a little stiffness the TLO is sub 150.DOUG wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2019 7:47 amThat may be true but I recently bought the Superleggara LTD and it was right on the claimed weight of 166g for the 42cm, to the gram.icantaffordcycling wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2019 6:06 amFrom what I have read on this forum, 3T bars almost always come significantly overweight

The RR is a bit cheaper. I have both (on 2 different bikes) in size 40 (outside to outside measure). SL is 154g, RR is 172g.Squashednuts wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2019 5:58 amI like the look of the Haero h145 with a flatter top

Speedplay is the devil!
+1 for the 3T Superergo LTD. By far the most comfortable bars I've ever used, especially on the tops and the corners behind the hoods.
I also had the Bontrager XXX VR-C at claimed 178 grams for 40cm. While super light and stiff, they tube profile and the very sharp bends on the top made them pretty uncomfortable for longer rides.

I use RXL carbon handlebar's on my bikes and I am very satisfied with them. On climbing bikes I use this 175g version which is 10 times cheaper than 3T Superergo LTD .
No brakes no any problems for more than a year
