latest test

giant propel advanced 1
"For less than half the price, the Giant Propel Advanced 1 obviously cannot match its performance, which is evident in the test. The visible differences lie in the adjustable seat post with integrated clamp - the top model has a laminated seat dome - and a stem made of aluminum instead of carbon. The Giant road bike performs respectably in the wind tunnel: 216 watts for 45 km/h is a good value, with the reference wheels it improves slightly to 212 watts and is very close to more expensive high-end models."

so put a one piece aero integrated bar/zipp404 and you match 209 watt of the advanced sl.

Any coincidence that the bikes with the lower wattages are all German brand bikes (Storck, Cube Canyon) rated by German Mag?

But aren't Rose bikes German as well? Not great numbers for that model.

Rose X lite looks like most other aero bikes. Is the Cube on 105 components? Really not an apples to apples comparision if all the bikes are using different levels of components and wheels.

Surprising that the Ridley tests so much faster than the Soloist despite them both being on super shallow wheels, 105, and normal bars and stem

Based on this, buying a Cervelo Soloist as a relatively affordable crit racer does not seem like a good idea anymore.

I would be very surprised if DA/Ultegra/105 has any real effect on aero numbers.

I know the new 105 12s Di2 FD looks slightly bigger than the DA/Ultegra, but I doubt that's worth even a watt.

Are there any aero tests of Shimano groupsets I have missed?

Wheels on the other hand......does Tour test all bikes on Zipp 404s to control for wheel depth?

Vitus ZX1 CRS Campy Chorus 12s Bora WTO 45 disk brake wheels Zipp SL70 bars 7.5kg

It's 218 watts with the 404s, so not that bad.

"There is potential: With the reference wheels, the Cervélo Soloist improves by ten watts, which corresponds to a place in the densely staggered midfield."

I don't have the magazine so don't know, but the mechanical 105 Soloist would probably have differences from the Di2.

How much would an integrated aero bar save vs round bar and normal stem?

Yielding 10-15 watts to the people on SL7s, Venges, S5s and Aeroads is going to make it pretty hard in a breakaway or a sprint finish. Around London at least, the top crit racers are all about the marginal gains. Skinsuits, aero bottles, narrow bars, deep wheels, etc. etc.

Maybe I'm mistaken or perhaps its the number for the R5 with the reference wheels but I had the 19 Cervelo R5 as 223 watts, I thought the Soloist was supposed to be more aerodynamic?

Most people won't be on completely round bars taped all the way on the tops, but I'm curious to know how many watts that costs. I wonder if the normal stem and potential round spacers hurt it

I wonder how is WvA feeling about racing the Classics on it..

Seriously though, the Soloist is a good platform, but with mid-depth wheels and round bars it's hardly surprising that it would test poorly. 218w with the 404s and if you throw an aero cockpit in you are hardly yielding anything..
