Does UDH have any effect on the dropout spacing?
Nope 👍

Interesting because there's some real supply issues, in Europe at least. There are no Dura Ace SLR9s (I've ended up buying an SLR7 because I want to stick with Shimano and I've already got RSL wheels) and Project Ones keep getting pushed back.

Generally speaking Trek seem to heavily prefer SRAM - none of the new gen gravel bikes will have a Shimano option for example.
I don't know if this is a TREK preference or just the fact that SRAM has really outdone Shimano in the off road space and makes GRX and XTR feel dated. Eagle Transmission is a game changer and the same tech trickles to the new direct mount XPLR. I can't imagine moving from Shimano to SRAM for road, in the same way that i can't imagine moving from SRAM to Shimano on my MTB.
TREK Madone Gen 7 SLR - 7.5kg
TREK Fuel EX Gen 5 - overbuilt and overweight

Why would you be changing the cockpit on the Canyon compared to the Madone?
Coincidentally, the touch points on the madone are pretty much exactly where I want them, but let's assume I did want to change the reach.

On the Madone SL all you'd have to change is the stem. On the Madone SLR --- which we're not discussing because why whine about the price of superbikes --- you could potentially drop a size and just add some more spacers. But on the Canyon, at either level, you have to change the whole cockpit, you can only use their cockpit, and the max number of spacers you can use is 15mm, so you can't really go down a size and compensate with spacers if you're trying to modify the reach.
Interesting. Do Canyon use some kind of weird and short steerer tube? I'm not familiar with them at all
The aeroad is much longer and lower than trek, but I wouldn't say it's weird. Probably more traditional if anything. The user-unfriendly detail is the very narrow fit range, lack of compatibility with standard components, and lack of availability of the proprietary components. Also if you fell and broke your bars you'd pretty much be SOL as far as I can tell. The new aeroad has different bars, so I don't think the old ones are going to be back in stock... ever (but maybe the new ones will eventually be in stock and compatible with the old bike. Still you're looking at months of waiting to ride your bike again.)

But yea, it's $400 less, woo hoo
Agree, getting replacement parts easy in case of an incident should be an important consideration.
Could get a Scott Foil frame right now, but the availability of cockpits or stems is so bad, that waiting months in case of crash is something I need to consider.
So SL8 or Giant Propel are now high up on my list, as getting stems, bars etc. is much easier in my opinion.

What is the consensus on the given bike weight of the Madon Gen 8? Lots of peopel in forums complain, that the given weights from Trek are much too low compared to bikes weighed in real life? Here I didn't find many frame weights provided by users, contrary to other threads.

My medium gen 8 SLR7 weighs 7.55kg with 2 RSL cages, the Garmin mount, Ultegra pedals, but with RSL51 not Pro 51 wheels.

From experience their claimed weights are optimistic but not way out. I've weighed a few ln the shop and added them to my Scales of Justice spreadsheet so I'll check and update here.

Early ride impressions very positive. It replaced a 2018 Cervelo R3 that was substantially upgraded and personalised and I had no intention of replacing, weighed ~7.2kg. Only done a couple hundred miles but feels fast, light and comfortable. Will be doing some power comparisons as have a couple of local loops that I've done loads of times so have a dataset of speed/power.

Since you didn't ask: 35 miles, rolling 1500ft of climbing, 19.5mph average was 195W on the R3 (with the RSL51s on), 170W on a Gen 6 Madone SLR (with 2 RSL bottles 😉), Gen 8 TBA.

Hi! I am in need of 2x 15mm Madone Gen 8 spacers (Trek Aero RSL Barstem Headset Spacers W5316080). They are sold out at Trek so if there is somebody from Europe (I am from the Czech Rep) who doesn´t need them and is willing to ship them I am happy to buy them from you. Please send me a private message. I am trying to fit Madone cockpit on my Domane. Thanks!

Can't compare with a Venge but that's very similar to my set up - 52/36, literally just fitted a Goldix 11/34, 28mm tyres and TPU tubes.

For a 60g weight saving in th SLR7 spec, why would anyone choose the G8 over the G7?

They're not light, but perhaps that eccentric design pick up some weight. It might be OK if it really enhance the ride feel?
What color are those bikes?
What other stems would work with the gen 8 talking internal routing of brake hoses/ cables?

I have always loved Mondrian and it was only Look who had that option before.

They where marketing 9kg emondas as super light climbing bikes, so for trek standards those new are light 😁😁😁

Finally got my slr7 after months of waiting. What a joy to ride. Having had both previous emondas and a venge in between this already feels like the perfect mix.
