I despise any velcro on any bike clothing or accessories. Sooner or later it's catching onto or grinding a hole in another item. Nothing like messing with velcro saddle bag straps with knit gloves.

Like it on my gravel shoes though.

Please tell me how you feel riding winter shoes compared to a normal road shoe with a winter shoe cover.
I have a Mavic winter shoe for road and one Northwave for a gravel.
Personally i don't feel they are warmer than a road shoe with a massive shoe cover.
I also bought heated insoles, but to be honest, i don't feel what i expected. I believe the small heat units can't produce sufficent heat as i guess heat is leaking out from the shoes. I really must admit, i can't bike when it's cold because i have bad circulation in feets, lower legs and hands.
No shoes or gloves help, i get so cold that if i just put my hand or foot at someone, they think i have been in a freezer.

My feet and fingers freeze as well. Every year, my temp threshold goes up. I used to ride in 30F and areas that dropped to 24F but nowadays, 40F is my limit.
I wish someone would figure out the glove and shoes for winter....I'd be first in line. I've tried many brands and many different solutions. So far, I stiuff chemical heat packs in my shoes and my gloves. I've had electric gloves and socks and never got warm enough or lasted more than an hour on full blast..

I use Lake MXZ303 and liners+lobster gloves during winter months in Sweden. Works with merino socks until -20C for är least 2-3 hours. The key with cold weather is to always size up to create air as an isolation layer. Without air even the best gear is almost useless. I'm usually 43 in shoe size but my Lakes are 45s. Lobster gloves are XL. Same principles should work using SPD-SL.

On another forum people went in about using polypropylene glove liners. Other online reviews seemed to agree that they really do work. I picked up the below set also, going to give them a go later this week.

I also ordered some poly socks off of Amazon. Make sure it's a true poly sock and not some heavily blended recipe. Will wear those as a sock liner if the DMT shoes aren't warm enough. I'm willing to try anything.

If you can fit it inside the shoe - I put toe warmers on top of my toes. I stopped using winter shoes as a pair of bont riots have enough volume that the toe warmer sits comfortably and with defeet woolie boolies and overshoes I don't need anything else. If it gets really cold (below 22F) I'll add a knit overshoe over the windproof layer (usually castelli intenso cover).

Let's just say I learned how to kit up the hard way. It's not sexy or fast to size up during winter but it sure is warmer and quite comfortable. People around here have a winter bike with wide studded tires, bar mitts, full-length mudguards with extended ass savers or cut out plastic bottles that are riveted onto the mudguards and ride around like that for a few months averaging 20-25km/h. There's nothing that beats the feeling of switching to your road bike once spring comes!
