I agree with the LeMond WC 1989 -- epic. A great photo needs epic weather.

This doesn't meet that criterion, and it's local, but I like it... from a race I helped organize up Sierra Road (not TOC :)):

Then I always liked this one of Jobst Brandt doing an ad for Avocet back in the '80's:

He still rides that bike, and still descends the same way.

Jobst has taken a lot of spectacular photos himself:

You posted the Hampsten/Gavia image I was coming here to post :)

Ah, Avocet FasGrip tires. I used to ride those. I remember the debate that slick tires could/couldn't grip as well as fine tread.

I have that same model/color Avocet Polypropolene jersey, although in a smaller size - bought it at Palo Alto Bicycles in 1983. Retired it from active duty about 10 years ago.

I'm trying to place where this picture was taken. Mt. Hamilton perhaps?

Has Jobst switched over to clipless pedals yet?

There was a really cool picture of Jobst riding on a rutted dirt mountain road with a very skimpy wooden guard rail which you could easily slide under, and presumably off a cliff. I belive it was Gavia Pass and was the front cover picture of an old Palo Alto Bicycles Catalog (early '80s) and also sold as a poster. That would be cool to post.

The Gavia photo is a classic. I didn't post it here because it's too big:

He's on clipless now -- I'm fairly certain SPD mountain bike pedals.

I'm not certain where that photo was taken. It does look like Hamilton, but it's actually the first turn of Pescadero Road. This one has a long, steep straightaway leading into the turn, which is fairly sharp and typically well maintained, which makes it well suited or this sort of thing.

Thanks D.J. That's the picture I was talking about. How would you like to race DOWN that!?! "Yeah boss, I'd like to go with the 21's today rather than the 19's. I like that extra bit of traction. And does a parachute on my bike count toward the 6.8 limit :beerchug:  :twinkle: ?"

The man's been riding extensively, locally and in the European Alps for 50 years and still doesn't wear a helmet. It's amazing he's still alive, right :):):). (and I still don't wear one when I drive a car. Call me crazy.)

That Stelvio shot is amazing!

Many great pictures so far, I love this thread.
