If he's carrying on racing, then he's not really retiring - merely switching disciplines. If he wants to go the Olympics on the MTB, then he'll need to rack up the points before then....And he's not the only one.

is gravel bound to become a memory lane for all of us ...uhm... mature fans? TBH it would be kinda cool to cheer for current champs on the road, and former ones on them dusty tracks

Marianne Vos out with illiac artery endofibrosis. Assume she will have surgery soon. Fingers crossed for her, most come back just fine, but not always. Ferrand Prevot was out for two years. More and more the consensus seems to be that the condition is caused by cycling.

It was great to see Audrey Cordon Ragot smiling after the health problem she had and the BnB shit show.
First race and a podium (and great national jersey where the sponsors integrates well and doesn’t look like a stupid billboard)

I have to hand it to Giant. They make some nice looking bikes but their helmets have always been hideous looking - with or without an aero fairing on them.

The last Propel was one of the ugliest bikes in the pro peloton. Luckily Sunweb only used it for one season before swapping to Cervelo. CCC pretty much never used it and neither did BikeExchange last year.

Giant keeps trying to make themselves into the image of Specialized but unless they open a Design studio someplace other than Japan (too insular) and actually listen to their sponsored pro riders (their shoes are a shitshow because the pro riders have no input) they will always be playing catch up.

Being an elite athlete is a risk factor, rather than cycling specifically. But the biggest risk factors are AAS and EPO, and, it's postulated, more so in a cocktail together. Both cause endofibrosis.
