It's Maciej Bodnar of TotalEnergie, he's up but badly road-rashed. Those latex tubes on descents, eh.

Milan-San Remo just now.
Clincher and latex. Tubeless too heavy?

Latex tubes weigh around 75g each, more than the difference between a clincher tire and its tubeless counterpart in most cases. Assume minimal sealant is used, maybe 20-30g each. There’s almost nothing in it.

We knew the Specialized teams were running clinchers on a lot of their bikes, but we don’t exactly know why. It might be rider preference. It might be that the mechanics hate tubeless maintenance. The Specialized RapidAir sealant is particularly sticky and messy to live with.

If this is the core of her argument she's grasping at straws here.
(snip)
Some really good points being made on other considerations re the new use of CGM for healthy athletes. This is turning out to be a bad look the reeks of privilege.
Reeks of privilege? I don't understand why she is getting such a hard time here. She's taken her lumps and has moved on.
Yes, her arguments. Nothing on her, for her or against her.

I have the same experience with a roval MTB wheel, my Schwalbe tyres would come off when deflated, no such thing happens with my farsports wheels.

Did Bodnar puncture and then crash when the tire and tube came off as he was slowing from a high speed?

Or did he crash and the crash caused the tire and tube to come off like that?

Specialized teams seem to be running turbo cotton + latex more so than their tubeless tires including the new ones. Not sure why. Even in Strade Bianche and other classics race.

Yes, this was discussed last week on Escape Collective Geek Warning podcast. Specialized teams are back on clinchers again rather than tubless. No one seems to know why and it is strange after the Roval wheel compatibility saga of the past years.

Great to see MvdP get the win, well deserved.

Also great to see Pogacar not on the podium for once.

Maybe Specialized regular clinchers with latex tubes are just faster than their tubeless options with whatever amount of sealant they would have had to use. Is there a test of these exact combos with publicly available results? If I recall correctly, the differences between the two setups are really small with tyres such as the Continental GP5000, so it's possible that with some other manufacturers the order is reversed.
