Totally. Or rather a 'low tax economy' - so the same thing.

The UK ecconomy has been crushed by fat people, sick people, drinking, drugs, litter etc. The NHS and avoidable disease is by far the biggest drain on tax payer money. Drive down any road and see how the folk who live here treat the country. The vast majority take for more than they give.
There isn't the funding for the police. People blame the politicians but the real issue is the vast majority of the poulation. They all seem to hate cyclists as well, that I blame entiry on disc brakes. The hatred definitely wasnt as strong when road bikes had rim brakes.
It's obvious professional criminals are only interested in DB bikes. Even the most hardened gangsters will not touch a rim brake bike. Organised crime knows they won't be able to sell the parts, actually would probably find it hard to give them away on Freecycle, or similar.

Conservatives have been charge of the UK police and justice system for the last 13 years. Why does the Right want to defund our police and liberalise the courts?OnTheRivet wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2023 7:04 pmThis is a direct result of the "defund the police" movements in Western countries. That and limited prosecuting by liberal court systems and criminals are emboldened.
Our lack of spending on basic public services like the police is baffling, but the UK economy is crushed by:tarmackev wrote: ↑Thu Apr 20, 2023 7:17 pmThe UK ecconomy has been crushed by fat people, sick people, drinking, drugs, litter etc. The NHS and avoidable disease is by far the biggest drain on tax payer money. 1. Near zero investment in public transport anywhere outside London for 50+ years. Half the rail network isn't even electrified FFS.
2. Deliberate (and seemingly deliberate, see #1) steps to limit growth in cities other than London, including specifically barring new office buildings in the 2nd city Birmingham some decades OK to maintain London's supremacy.
3. Bizarrely uneven regional funding from central Government, including disparities of +-20% per person between regions within England and +-30% when looking at Scotland and Wales etc. Some of our most deprived areas receive massivly less funding through no fault of their own, and simultaneously have to pay higher council tax to cover the shortfall vs the wealthier regions.
After the Borough market suicide bomber attack https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_London_Bridge_attack a very big chunk of the Met's resources were diverted to antiterrorism. When this decision was taken the Met said the public would have to accept much less investigation of crimes. There are a great many officers peering into the lives of terrorism suspects or being bodyguards for ministers etc. (This is why you hardly ever see a motorcycle cop doing traffic work in London. They're all doing close protection.)
