Has straps to keep the wheels back when in the bags.
its is a beast at 56cm wide as my bars are only 40cm but like I said intrigued to see if this takes less time to get in the box than the Bike Box Alan!

Hey,

Was meaning to come back to this because I managed to have a good chat with Josh when he came to pick up my box yesterday and he addressed most of my issues. As I thought, they're mostly to do with the fact that I was using a prototype.

- The prototype was ~4kg heavier than the final versions due to the moulding
- There will be anchor points that the frame rug will attach to the box (although not for the wheels)
- Gravel wheels can be fitted with the crush poles passing through the spokes. I wasn't able to verify this as the box has gone back now but it will obviously mean that you won't be able to use wheel bags unless you cut a hole in them for the crush pole to go through. It does also mean that wheels won't move in the box!

Unfortunately, the inside space will be the same so I think at my saddle height I will need to drop the seat post each time. Not a huge issue as my seatposts are fairly good and have a measuring guide on them but might be an issue if you have one that regularly creaks or slips.

He also showed me some photos of the final box and said they've started shipping so are getting through the back orders as quickly as they can.

Hey well I finally receive the box today!
Only 5 months and 2 weeks after ordering
Your have the straps on both sides but the frame bag also attaches to the inside of the case with clips from the back.
Might give it a dry run tomorrow and post some more pics

It looks like you have to put your bike upside down into the Shokbox Pro.
I never had any problem with that but I have heard that you should not put your bike upside down if you have hydraulic brakes?! What is up with that?

Shokbox Pro looks pretty good to me

Turned my disc brake bike upside to work at it a while back. Left it sitting for a couple of hours and when I flipped it back round the brakes were noticeably softer. I left it a while but the brakes were still crap so I had to bleed them...PITA!

Thanks for the update! Are you able to fit the bike without removing the pedals you think?

No idea but looking online at the marketing photos and reels on instagram looks like the pedals come off but I will try.
Like I says it is a big box, well it's wider than the Alan Pro so may go in with pedal but I think wheel bags may sit over this area so obviously don't want them sticking out.
My frame is 54cm.
I generally remove the chain, rear derailleur di2 and also the disc rotors just for piece of mind.
I'm on holiday so no rush if there is a bit of assembly at the other end.
I'm more intrested in the ease of packing the Alan pro does not take 5-10 minutes as claimed it was a bit of a faff last year and I had to add a load of extra padding/protection
I may give it a go on Wednesday afternoon as I have some time and will take a load of photos.
No instructions given on how to pack the frame bag but I was told this would be the case as they have been busy trying to catch up with the backlog of pre orders so some will unfortunately not get sent out with instructions.
I'm not bothered it looks fairly simple so I'm confident I can figure this out.
Being the first time packing and will take my time so I don't expect it to be rapid.


To the other reply about brakes I never had an issue when I used the Alan Pro box last year and this again is upside down. Disc system is fully sealed so if you have air inevitably they will go soft you generally tie the levers back for an hour or so and this should sort it out.
But I do make an effort to keep the box flat. Generally they do say don't leave hydraulic upside down but some says it does not matter either.

Ok I did not expect to pack this thing in ten minutes.
I had time for a dry run today before I travel Saturday next week so I spent one and a half hours on it.
It will probably will take me 45 minutes to 1 hour on the day before I leave, as I need to make some packing adjustments after speaking with Josh from Shokbox after I spoke to him having sent my photos of my packing to him.
I am making some of my comparison against the Bike box Alan Aero Easfit as this would be my go to box if the Shoxbox pro was not a thing.
I am realistic so I do not expect any box to be a perfect solution, or actually take 10minutes to pack thats just stupid!

Now I removed the rear derailleur you do not have to, but Like the Bike Box Alan it is so close to the edge of the case I was worried if it were to hit the inside of the case it may potentially bend the hanger, so I removed it anyway. Its Di2 so easy to fit back

I removed my saddle I run a 54cm frame with a 74cm saddle height, now you could slide it down but I don’t want to scratch up my nice shiny Darimo post .
On the Alan my saddle stayed on but again I had to cushion and cover it with padding as again I did fear it would get damaged, as I had a full carbon Berk saddle so that was a pain. Will tray leaving it on when I pack again the Shokbox is a taller case 96cm vs the Alan which is 94cm. Even if I still take it out it no big deal.

I removed my chain I could leave it again with the derailleur, but I would not want it slapping around against my frame. I Have speed links so no drama putting it back on.

In the photos I have the wheel bags placed on top of each other, after speaking with Josh from Shokbox the box is actually designed for one wheel to go underneath the frame and the other to go on top, that is what the two straps are for. I will give this a go when packing to travel.
Now you can leave disc rotors on however I will be removing mine, I don’t want a potential bent rotor and I did also do this when using the Alan.
I do not want to be going to a LBS when I’m away with bent or rubbing rotors easier to remove and put back on at the other end.

The box is not perfect but to be honest if I wanted something perfect it would likely have to be a lot large than this box!

Is it better than the Bike Box Alan Aero Easifit? In my opinion I would say yes but they both have their pros and cons, but I am confident this case offers my pride and joy the protection it needs so I have peace of mind.

With the Alan as there is no frame bag I did have to use a sh!t load of extra protection and padding around my frame and I also had to put protection around areas where the Alan uses Velcro strap due to potential rubbing on the paint this was a pain in the butt and it was a pain in the ass to close up as well Shokbox is easier to shut and the construction is noticeably sturdier!

I did ask josh why there are no Velcro straps within the box to secure the bag firmly, and he said that when they were designing and what the found with competitors boxes that is a frame is firmly secured within the box and for instance the box has a large fall the energy created by this can dissipate through the frame and tend to cause damage to the frame itself. Please do note after closing the case it is not flapping about inside.

Thanks for this. I was hoping I would not have to take off my seatpost. I used Bike Box Alan last year SL7 56cm frame, and I was able to leave my seatpost on without any adjustments. Are you being cautious, or is there just no room?

This looks great, thanks for taking the time post all the photos. Could you post the weight when you've been through the airport, interested to see how much lighter the final version is than the prototype. I actually think that packing as much kit in with the bike as possible will also help prevent it from moving around as well as the straps and there seems like a lot of space around the frame for that.

I'm surprised your seatpost didn't fit. Mine was really close to fitting at 76cm from BB. I'm also pleased to see that there seems like a lot more space between the crush poles for bigger tyres. It was fairly tight getting one road wheel into that space, no way I could have fit two like you've managed.

I also wonder if anyone knows of any third party protectors for rotors and rear derailleurs to give extra peace of mind when leaving them on the bike. Thought it would be quite easy to make something that would slide around the rotors and stop any impact from deforming them but I can't really see anything available.
