I will be visiting Alicante in mid-Jan and staying downtown Alicante. Curious if any route recommendations for rides in the 60-70 miles (90-110km) range (paved)?

Head south towards Denia - this route follows the attractive coastline with views of the sea. Should be around 65 miles with rolling hills along the way.

Inland route to Villena - take the CV885 north then loop back on the CV86. This goes through countryside scenery and smaller towns. Estimated at 70 miles.

Xixona loop - go east on CV845, circle around Xixona then return to Alicante down the hillier CV88. Lots of climbing but rewards are the views. 60 miles.

Pego to Callosa d'en Sarria - a more challenging route west through the mountains. Best for experienced riders but stunning rural scenery. 85 miles.

Hope these route ideas give you some options to consider exploring the area!

These all sound really interesting. Do you happen to have any GPS routes you could share? (Strava/RideWithGPS/MapMyRide/Komoots/etc)

If you do a search on RideWithGPS you will probably find many good routes in the area - just set the filters to suit your needs. Better yet, learn to build your own routes. It's not that difficult. Use the heat map to see where people are riding, use the topography to choose your terrain, and then use Street View to check the surface, traffic, etc. After some practice you become very good at identifying the best roads to cycle. You can also use Google Maps to check your work, find food stops, etc. Nothin beats a really well designed loop for a great day on the bike. Sorry, haven't been to Alicante yet so I have nothing for you.

Thank you for the recommendations! Exactly what I was looking for. Of the the four routes you recommended, how would you stack rank them? I will have time for 2 - 3 of them..

I can't help thinking ATW Guy has misread your location; one of the routes mentions Dénia. This is North, not South of Alicante. Another has you heading East from Alicante. This puts you straight in the sea.

Also there is nothing wrong with picking up the Michelin map of the area, scale 150K (zoom Spain 123). A paper map. Pick any white road and discover the countryside. It really works. Yay, adventure!

I plan to visit Alicante in January. As I don't trust any airline to take good care of my beloved SL8, I've decided to a rent a bike locally. Do you have any recommendations, where to go to get a decent road bike for a week? Carbon wheels and electronic shifting preferred.
