Hello! I am new to the world of aero and/or lightweight stuff, but am jumping into the deep end. I'm looking for a rear disc wheel to use on a S-Works Shiv TT Disc for 24-hour races and other mid to long distance road races. I have a lead on a brand new Roval 321 Disc wheel for $1,800, which was originally sold as the OEM disc wheel on complete bike builds with this frame. This has a 19mm internal width, 27.3mm external, and weighs 1,015g. I've been recommended the Cadex disc wheel which has a more modern 22.4mm internal width, 28.4 mm extermal, and weighs 1,154g. Unfortunately it also costs $3,500 and is out of stock. What are some "reasonably" priced disc wheels that you might recommend for my long races?

I've had my 321 for a couple years now.... it's a really good wheel and see no reason to "upgrade ?"

Nice, good to know. Yeah, whichever wheel I buy I plan to keep it for quite a while. I don't really have the time or money to buy multiple disc wheels, so I want to be sure I'm getting great performance for a decent price. Have you had any issues at all with it? One thing that concerns me about disc wheels is the inability to true them! How's the lateral runout on it, does it seem to be well balanced and all the things you'd expect from a normal wheel? I wonder how it holds up after a few thousand miles of riding.

because my local sprint tri's dried up and not many TT going on (Covid and all) I only have maybe 500-600miles on it. No issues so far and mine ended up being 1005g. Runout never checked and again I dont notice anything but the sides are fairly thin and will ding easy. I have a Zipp super9 before is that was no different.

I also just saw that HED is having a sale on disc wheels, they've got the Vanquish Pro RCD for $1,680. It has a a 21mm internal width, 30mm external, and weighs 1,135g. I like the wider internal width compared to the Roval wheels, but it does weight about 120g more and does not have the CeramicSpeed bearings that the Roval does. One thing that does look favorable for the HED is that it is still a spoked construction, so I'm guessing the carbon disc is just a fancy fairing and the wheel could still be trued? HED has said that "minor spoke adjustments are possible from the rim bed." If the longevity of a the spoked wheel is looking better than the carbon Rovals, I'd probably deal with the extra weight of the HED just for the peace of mind that I might be able to better maintain the wheel over time.

Parcours makes the only true disc wheel that is wide enough (aero wise) for a 28mm tire that I know of. Once I have the cash, I plan to buy one.

Lightbicycle has their Precision C21 under 1000g, which has 21/27 inner and outer width. Personally considering aerocoach aeox ultra orbit for my upcoming tt.

Stick to the Roval since warranty through a local dealer would be the easiest.

I was able to get the Roval 321 price down to $1,500 and ended up buying it. Here's hoping it's fast.

There are others.

HED and Caden are also 30mm+. Aerocoach saw no difference in 25mm and 28mm tires on their disc. Revolver is also 29mm.
