HED Vanquish Aero Road Wheels get Wider & Faster -April 2024

Top level, there are two versions – Vanquish, and Vanquish Pro. All depths are updated, and they’ve replaced hte 40mm with a deeper 45mm option. The entire construction is new, too, from carbon fiber material and supplier selection to layup and rim profiles. And they’re all still hooked, because they believe that’s the safest option....

hey reshaped the rims, with a blunter shape near the spokes. Interior width increased from 21mm to 22.4mm, with a corresponding growth on the outer width, too. The goal of all these changes was to improve aerodynamics with wider 28mm tires. It worked, and not just in CFD. HED took them to the wind tunnel to prove it:

Specifically, the patent says: “The amount of increase in stall angle due to depth decreases as the tangent angle increases.” In laymen’s terms, Hed’s rep told us the point of the patent is that they can design an optimal range of yaw based on rim and tire combinations, and predict the stall angle.
just an interesting schematic for reference from HED's patent filing (2016)

Tested on their outdated narrow rims so schwalbe aero gets done dirty, no enve raceday either, steering moment compared with gp5k 28mm instead of 25mm

actually enve raceday looks like the same pattern as regular so maybe not a big deal

Aero data for 3 of the Vonoa wheels.
Pretty disappointing they didn't test with the 1100 62 DIcut but i might just pull the trigger and get the Vonoa sprint wheels.

not necessarily an aero plot but some reasoning on design based on yaw angles in there that can relate to wheel profile designs based on effective yaw angle
