Weight Weenies

Looking to buy a new set of all round carbon wheels for my road bike - somewhere between 40-50mm I suppose. It's been a few years since i've bought a new set of wheels and wondering if there has been anything outstanding released. I currently have LB46 with Carbon Ti hubs and Sapim CX ray which are 21mm internal and 1390g running with Vittoria latex tubes. I want to prioritise stiffness when doing hard up hill efforts out of the saddle efforts. I was thinking something like Cadex's, but I think they are hookless, which is probably a deal breaker unless anyone can convince me otherwise,Mavic look too narrow for my liking , maybe it will be something custom. Currently weigh around 73kg. .

For wide and hooked, I'd look at:

Ascent Polaris 42: 23mm internal, 32.5mm external, DT240 hubs,1300g

Reserve 40/44: 24mm internal, 32mm external, DT240 hubs, 1388g

Hunt 48 Limitless: 22.5mm internal, 35mm external, 1511g

I have been using Elitewheels Drive 50 for about 5000km with no issues. Very light and agile wheels:

DT swiss erc 1400, hooked 22 internal width and 28 external width. 45mm deep.

They feel much stiffer that the 35mm 25/18 they replaced

There is a new rim from Duke, its called the Baccara X 48 SLR2, comes with 23mm internal hooked and 29,4 external width. 48mm deep.

So you want the new wheels to be stiffer than your current one, do I get this right? With your weight, stiffness shouldn't be that much of a problem, if the wheels are built correctly.

Anyway, if you also want to go wider, you could go for LB WR Series (32mm external, 25mm internal) rims. I would suggest some nice j-bend hubs (DT 240, Hope RS4, CK R45D,...)
24 Holes front and rear, CX Sprint/ CX Ray mix.

I'm not sure if any of the current "off the shelf" wheelsets will be a real upgrade for you.

Bontrager Aeolus RSL and Pro are worth a look. Both are 51mm depth, 23mm inner, 31mm outer. RSL is lighter and comes with DT 240 hubs, the PROs are cheaper, with DT350 hubs.

I have been very satisfied with my 51mm Aeolus RSL.
They are very stable in windy conditions.

Unfortunately not. I am searching for impressions too, as I am searching for a new wheelset between 40-50mm and around 1400-1450g, hooked, if possible. I don't want to spend too much, I don't race. So the Vison 45 SL, Newmen SL R 42 (not the Carbon spokes version, 1410g), Reserve 40/44 and new DT Swiss ERC 1100 in 45mm are on my short list as I get them around 1500 - 1800 Euros.
DT Swiss internal spokes and 28.5mm outer width isn't to my liking. Bontrager's Aeolus RSL 51 would be my favorite, but they are 2500 Euros, here. Too much for another 1-2 W saving at my speed.

Newmen is from Germany and service is easy to get, I have very good experience with their MTB wheels, which I use on my gravel bike. Service for Vision wheels would be less easy to get, I fail to find many user reports, too, regarding reliability etc. Both were used by world tour teams, though, so surely shouldn't be that bad.

How are the 51s with stability in crosswinds running 28mm?

I have only been using 25mm, so I don't know.

I got my wheelset for about 1900 euros in Denmark (not online).

You are quite clear on what you want but miss the budget and the tires you want to use (or the road conditions you ride).

For stiffness, the only quality jump you will have is via carbon spokes and that brings you into a wide territorry, from 1200 to 4000+.
