Thoughts on these? Pricey, but crazy lightweight for a 45mm depth. Nearest wheel at that weight is the Roval Alpinists, and they're only 33mm...

I can configure Light Bicycle flyweight AR45s with Carbon-Ti hubs, carbon spokes down to 1266g for US$1500.

The AR45s are 30mm at their widest point also, but won't be as stiff.

Ascent Polaris 42s are around 1300g with DT Swiss 240 EXP hubs and Sapim CX-Ray spokes. They are even wider at 23mm internal and 32.5mm external. If you laced up those rims with carbon spokes and Carbon-Ti hubs, I bet the wheelset would weigh 1250-1260g.

It's total "Nah.." for me. Becasuse of,

3900 EUR is 4,600-5,000USD (import tariff included for non EU contries)
and limited part interchangeability.

You have to replace whole spokes and hub assembly for eye watering price when one of the spoke got damaged.

There are tons of contenders out there who sell similar or better spec'd wheelset for much lower bucks. I think Mavic and other major wheel companies are losing their ground.

Possible build is:
Polaris 42 Raw x2: 360g x2 = 720g
DT 180: 92 + 188g = 280g
Spokes: CX Ray + Alloy Nipples: (4.5 + 0.3) * 48 = 230.4g
Total Estimate: 1230g-1240g without rim tape

Even with the DT 240s, you'd be around 1260-1270g with the raw rims.
No carbon spokes required. Normal CX Rays - reliable, easily replaceable.

With Carbon-Ti hubs you can save 10 grams vs DT180
With Extralite Hubs you can save 68 grams vs DT180

You need to add 20g for rim tapes. Mavic comes without access holes. Acsent may have the same option? IDK...
But adding 20g does not change that Mavic is not competitive anymore. Sad.

For a longer longevity of the wheel, Mavic recommends that the total weight supported by the wheels doesn't exceed 120kg, bike included
For comparison:

Light Bicycle AR45 flyweight rim is 390+/-15g with a restriction of Max Cyclist Weight (on flat ground): Standard 135kg/ 298lbs, Flyweight 90kg/ 198lbs

The main competitive edge of the Ultimate (or Lightweight) design is the bonded rim-hub-spoke structure. The ride feel (acceleration) will be more direct and to be felt at climbing (high-torque).

Personally I like traditional steel spokes more as they are less harsh over less than perfect road surface.

My duke 48/56 with cx ray and tactic hubs including tactic hubs 1270.
Taking the new 56/56 Baccara X using Briks carbon spokes you end up at 1200 without rimtape.

Have the LW and Mavic Ultimate (rim brake), the ride feel is very different in vs aluminium/stainless spoke wheels.....regardless of custom build 25mm to 60mm carbon rims build to whatever stiffness or weight. The carbon spoke wheel feels best under up hil accelerrations...........on a normal road, I think the wider carbon spokes catches more wind and therefore resistance.

You can get exremely light, but no wheels offer proper weight support and their stiffness is another question. I have been thinking of buying Duke Ultras, but weight is limited to 90kg, as I weight 78 + bike it gets really on the edge. Mavic is rated up to 120kg + Carbon spoke and rim to rim stiffness is amazing. I tried Lighweight wheels - they are STIFF. Yes, riding flats you don't need that but climbing up the hill ,every stroke feels like a push unlike with traditional spoke wheels. Also, there super light hubs etc which can help you go down in weight, but what is their reliability...
