Hi there
I am a bike mechanic and of course rider based in switzerland. Building road/gravelbikes and wheels. Always on the hunt for the lightest parts and the best performance.
(veloandreas on instagram)
Im somehow a wheel fanatic, so i am always aware of new products coming out. And this time i was fast enough..
As the chasing of the crown for the lightest tubular/rim brake wheels goes on and on, we mostly forget whats really going on on the latest roadbikes.
Disc brakes and tubeless tires are going on.
But there is a lack of light climber wheels for this setups!!!
Here the actual weight of some well known brands lightest wheels:
(Claimed weight)
Dt Swiss: 1266g
Campagnolo: 1385g
Zipp: 1255g
Enve: 1197g
When you go deeper you have extralite at: 1080g
and the benchmark (extralite) with berd spokes at:
1005g!
So let my wheels speak: Let me tell you a secret: This is the start of a new generation of wheels!
Thanks for reading!
Let me know your thoughts about!!

That is very nice! How/where did you get the rims? Will be great if you can do tubular rims because I'm still on that!

Thank you!
The rims are the new enve 2.3
As i wanted to be first with this wheelset i ordered a full wheelset to take the rims of it.
I then removed the decals and the paint to be under 900g.
About disc brake tubulars: i soon should have access to a version at around 780g (same hubs and spokes as shown here)

No. Theyr claim to have worlds lightest spokes is not true.
The berds are around 2,6g at 264mm and my carbon spokes are 2.25g. So with the berd spokes it would add 16,8g to this wheelset.

Your carbon spokes? Did you make them yourself? How have you tested them so far?veloandreas wrote: ↑Tue Aug 02, 2022 10:19 amNo. Theyr claim to have worlds lightest spokes is not true.

There was actually not much paint to remove. Just around 1-2g per rim. Its visible when to stop sanding as you start seeing the bare carbon (the lines of the unidirectional carbon)
The decals had more potential to save weight: About the spokes: they have titanium inserts at both ends with a standard 2mm tread. So they fit in every standard hub. The wheelbuilding is as easy as it can be.

no no, i dont produce them! Sorry my unclear words! I was just reffering to "my" mounted spokes on this wheelset.Nickldn wrote: ↑Tue Aug 02, 2022 11:43 amYour carbon spokes? Im in good contact with the producer and the spokes have been tested and doing very well. They have a peak point of 300-320kg! So the 120kg tension mounted here is a joke for them.
I ride with them at the rear on the roadbike for 1 year now and i am interested to test them offroad. Im pretty sure they are better against stones and stuff then the berds.

im pretty sure its the same product, yes. (Deerobust is not producing them, they only have theyr name on it) there are a lot of different carbon spoke producers who are doing nearly the same stuff. Im testing them out.. the best contact i have now is brisk wheels (instagram).
I'll be interested! Let me know the details especially regarding the rims and price.veloandreas wrote: About disc brake tubulars: i soon should have access to a version at around 780g (same hubs and spokes as shown here)
I have a set of berd spokes wheels at 943g, but the Carbon-ti hubs on it are heavier for sure. The Berd spokes are pretty much unbreakable, I tried sawing a spare one with a knife and nothing happened, and given its inherently elasticity it should hold up better upon impact compared to a more brittle material. But lacing the Berd spokes are a pain, and require rounds of tensioning and resting.
