Hi all,
I'm a youth roadie, 16 years old from Victoria BC canada. I've dipped into road racing in the past couple years and as we veer into the winter season I'm already planning my gear for next season as I hope to take my road racing a step up and try out some hill climbs as well (I'm 120lbs
with a new set of hoops. Currently I'm running WH-RS370's @1820g set up with 25mm gp5k's on my '19 teammachine slr02 two disc.
Looking for some advice as to what wheels I should opt for. At the moment I'm leaning towards 38 or 50 disc hyper's - I've got a buddy in the industry who can hook me up with a set for ~800usd all said and done, as opposed to 1200usd + fees. From the research I've done this seem like a fairly good option for someone like me. For some context I'll be competing in faster cat4/cat3 equivalent next season (mostly road races 30-80kms) and like I mentioned hopefully trying some hill climbs. I'd also prefer not to be swapping wheelsets back and forth so I'll prolly be doing all my training on these (3-6 rides per week, 40-80kms with 500-1200m of elevation). Given these factors I'm pretty confident the hyper's will be my best bet but I'm very open to suggestions of other wheels and/or personal experience with this wheelset. I'm willing to spend a little more but I'm still in high school and now 100% on my own financially for bike parts. rip.
Finally, if I settle on the hyper's I'm torn on whether to go 38mm or 50. The ~75g weight difference is pretty negligible for me so I'm mostly concerned about cross wind stability vs the aero advantage with the deeper hoops. Victoria is pretty hilly so I'd say I frequently descend at 70kmh but I dont get much faster than that. Any insight on how these wheels perform in cross winds would be greatly appreciated, especially being a light rider as I mentioned. Thanks!!
Any chance to help me get them this discounted? I´m considering Hyper 50 or 65 last months but 1100usd is still pricey.
For 800usd I´d try them for sure.
You can get the latest Hyper SE wheels for 900usd after the 10% discount. They are basically the same as the old Hyper 38/50/65 wheels, with matt coating and steel bearings.
I know, I considered this option too.

from what I've seen, bike-discount is the only site with those kind of prices (but hasn't got dark label shimano), all those other big online retailers got prices around 2000.
Not true, bike24 offers them under 1500 too. Dark label Shimano:

WTO 33 are currently 100€ more, but if you watch the price, you can get them cheaper.
Also I remember CRC offered them well under 1500 few months ago.
will check that, thanks

To the R67 owners: do the rims especially the rear one fits into normal Ultegra direct mount calipers? Frameset would be Oltre xr4

R45 works. In case it helps.
R67 don´t know.

Quick question:
Will a 60mm valve for tubes work at the new "2023 45" backwheel, which is 54mm deep?
Or do I need 80mm valves?
Thank you!

I've just tested this with 65mm valves. I'd say 60mm would be too short. The 65mm worked but getting the pump head on when the tyre was flat was a slight pain with only about 12mm of valve stem showing. I reckon with 60mm you'd have 10mm or less showing with a flat tube when pushing on the tyre, so you may get a pump on it depending on the specific pump head, but I couldn't be bothered messing about. Therefore I've put the 80mm back on.
Personally, the 80mm leaves too much valve showing for my preference, but it works and is easy to get the pump onto.

They’re different rims, right?

Winspace got some nice deals for black Friday.
2 pairs of old Hypers will cost 1800 USD only now. Would be perfect for 23mm & 25mm tire users. Could have both 38mm and 65mm wheelsets for different uses or just upgrade wheels together with a best friend.

Just received the new 2023 Hyper R45s and have a Q for others:
The wheels come tubeless ready, with tubeless rim tape already installed. If I want to run tubes, is there other standard rim tape underneath the tubeless tape? Or will I need to purchase that and install separately after removing the tubeless tape?

You can perfectly keep the TL tape. There is nothing underneath. I did set up the wheels with Veloplugs, that’s another option.

Hi,
Had my Hyper Wheels Disc 50mm bearings replaced and was told I was missing the rear Hub washer seal the one that apparently fits over the freehub.Think I may have lost it when I took of my cassette a few months back and may have not realised.Does anyone know what this looks like and where I can buy a new one from?
Any help appreciated
Thanks Nay

Has anyone tried the 2023 D33?
I'm looking for a low-profile wheelset. The new LightBicycle Falcon Pro series might be good but the wavy profile is not my cup of tea.
