Hi all,
I'm a youth roadie, 16 years old from Victoria BC canada. I've dipped into road racing in the past couple years and as we veer into the winter season I'm already planning my gear for next season as I hope to take my road racing a step up and try out some hill climbs as well (I'm 120lbs ;) with a new set of hoops. Currently I'm running WH-RS370's @1820g set up with 25mm gp5k's on my '19 teammachine slr02 two disc.
Looking for some advice as to what wheels I should opt for. At the moment I'm leaning towards 38 or 50 disc hyper's - I've got a buddy in the industry who can hook me up with a set for ~800usd all said and done, as opposed to 1200usd + fees. From the research I've done this seem like a fairly good option for someone like me. For some context I'll be competing in faster cat4/cat3 equivalent next season (mostly road races 30-80kms) and like I mentioned hopefully trying some hill climbs. I'd also prefer not to be swapping wheelsets back and forth so I'll prolly be doing all my training on these (3-6 rides per week, 40-80kms with 500-1200m of elevation). Given these factors I'm pretty confident the hyper's will be my best bet but I'm very open to suggestions of other wheels and/or personal experience with this wheelset. I'm willing to spend a little more but I'm still in high school and now 100% on my own financially for bike parts. rip.

Finally, if I settle on the hyper's I'm torn on whether to go 38mm or 50. The ~75g weight difference is pretty negligible for me so I'm mostly concerned about cross wind stability vs the aero advantage with the deeper hoops. Victoria is pretty hilly so I'd say I frequently descend at 70kmh but I dont get much faster than that. Any insight on how these wheels perform in cross winds would be greatly appreciated, especially being a light rider as I mentioned. Thanks!!
Any chance to help me get them this discounted? I´m considering Hyper 50 or 65 last months but 1100usd is still pricey.
For 800usd I´d try them for sure.

sorry, I don't think so.
However I've seen several 10% off codes floating around. Here's one : "charlesouimet10". Haven't tried it but I think it should work. I know its not 800 but still better than full price.

10% discount will give you Winspace too, no questions asked and no need to use one of the affiliate codes.
For little more than that I can have brand new Bora WTO 60 wheelset with warranty and local support. Sorry Winspace.

Where can you get those similar prices on wto?
A few years ago I bought the wto 60 for less then 1500, now I'd like to get the 33 and they cost over 2000€

Just had to order and replaced 5 spokes. After watching Joe's (chinacycling) video and buying the internal spoke wrench, the process is so much easier than traditional nipples. So easy to hold the spoke straight with a spoke spanner and tighten from inside the rim with a wrench.

I had a top tip from my local shop mechanic - put some great on/in the wrench so the nipple sticks to the wrench and you don't lose it. Worked a treat, each nipple, I added some grease to the wrench and there was no worry of dropping the nipple inside the rim.

And how about spoke tension?

I have a tension meter that I bought from alliexpress previously. I just matched the tension of the new spokes to the old spokes, then finished with basic wheel true.

I can have Bora WTO 60 from local dealer for about 1250. I don´t think it´s such of a shocking price since they are usually being sold under 1500 online:

WTO 33 for 2000€? I don´t know where are you looking, but you can order WTO 33 for under 1500€ right now:

from what I've seen, bike-discount is the only site with those kind of prices (but hasn't got dark label shimano), all those other big online retailers got prices around 2000.
A set of wto60 for 1250 I woudn't look back! Although they come heavier then advertised (as with anything italian).

My derailleur was dragged through the wheel and broke in to three peices after my chain came off. The jockey wheel cage was snapped in two, the derailleur had been ripped out of the hanger and other parts totally snapped..... but the spokes handn't brooken, about 6 had some minor damage so I changed them to be safe.

A very expensive little incident.

To be honest, given the damage to the metal derailleur the spokes proved extremely strong and resilient.

You can get the latest Hyper SE wheels for 900usd after the 10% discount. They are basically the same as the old Hyper 38/50/65 wheels, with matt coating and steel bearings.

Not true, bike24 offers them under 1500 too. Dark label Shimano: https://www.bike24.com/p2322466.html?so ... ku=1123068

WTO 33 are currently 100€ more, but if you watch the price, you can get them cheaper.

Also I remember CRC offered them well under 1500 few months ago.
