Here is another caad12 user from Zürich ( ). I had a "small" accident with my former caad12 and I am looking for some vertical tube ring or adaptor where I could place my front derailleur. Do you know if that type exists? The vertical tube at that section is not circular

Thx a lot but a 58 would be like a horse to me, being 170cm . I use either 48 or 50.

I am 178cm and typically ride 54cm frames but the CAAD12 runs a size big in my expierence. I curently ride a 52cm CAAD12 with a bit of more spacers to replicate my fit on my other 54cm bikes.

I am 178cm and typically ride 54cm frames but the CAAD12 runs a size big in my expierence. I curently ride a 52cm CAAD12 with a bit of more spacers to replicate my fit on my other 54cm bikes.

Are we talking about stack and reach? Compared to a Tarmac in 54 the CAAD is about 7mm higher and the reach close to the same. Oddly I ride an SL6 54 with 20mm spacers inc. headset cover and a 120 stem and a CAAD12 56 slammed with 110mm stem and they're pretty close in that configuration. Definitely should have bought the CAAD in 54 but I liked the colour and it was only left in that size.

There is my 2001 CAAD5, 7.2kg without pedals so definitely not much in the weighty weenies...!
It's build with a mix of Sram Red, Rival and Force 10s, Vittoria Qurano wheelset, Argon18 carbon components and Ti bolt everywhere.

I recently updgrade to a 2nd Gen Red 10s groupset and replace the integrated handlebar with a Bontrager RSL AERO, but not proper pictures for the moment.

I'm not looking to shave some weight anymore, it run perfectly like that, and without swaping the frameset I don't think I could really shave some big grams

Thinking about building up semi-lightweight alloy bike for all-weather conditions, just in case I don't want to get my carbon bike out.

How feasible would it be to build a Caad8 (mid 2010s, size 54) with alloy wheelset to get around 7.5kg with pedals and cages? I assume replacing the fork with one that has carbon steerer would be a decent start?

My other option would be getting a 2018+ rim brake Allez in the same size, althought the frame set would be bit heavier than Caad with full carbon fork, not to mention more expensive.

You're right, start by the fork, you can shave nearly 300gr with a carbon steerer one.
With a light alloy wheelset, 7.5kg is easy to reach
My previous wheelset was an alloy and is lighter than my actual carbon one.
Find a nice crankset, carbon seatpost and an Uno stem and you'll be good!
