Not practical and quite complex; but I think it's a piece of art.
Saffron uses it quite a bit. Apparently it's risky as it has to be done when the frame is completed. If something goes wrong, it will ruin all the work.

Also, below a link to an interview with Matthew Sowter from Saffron where he references this clamping approach.

It’s only risky if your skill isn’t up to par. Barco have been doing this for decades, first with Scapin, now in their own account.

I didn't know Barco was with Scapin. Below the picture of the referenced Scapin. The frame is not in great shape, but still piece of art. I rode it a long time ago (it's a friend's) and recall it being exceptional.

Framebuilders make mistakes; they are frequently very demanding with themselves and will chuck into the bin any frame with a defect (small and imperceptible as it may be). On the Saffron interview, the risk of the approach is mentioned.

Got myself an early xmas present, a Colnago Master 30th Anniv frame (albeit 2nd hand, because I can't afford to pay for a bnew frame ):

Image

I just have a question though. I've been researching about Master 30th Anniv colorways but I couldn't seem to find this particular colorway. I don't think it's a fake (since it has all the Colnago pantographs in the lugs, plus it has the 30th Anniv sticker underneath the clearcoat), but I also don't know what particular version this is (I am assuming this is one of the non-AD Masters that went out of the assembly line). Appreciate any leads on this. Thank you in advance!

It's a 2-11 frame indeed, but not a MR4. It's the road specific (30-32mm clearance) model, aka "1465", very very limited edition.

Ah okay. I have a MR4 standing here as frameset and its just like pudding. Very wobbly and nothing like Columbus at all. But if i look closely at your picture, i can spot the differences.

Wow! That Ritchey is a stunner - that's the type of bike I'd like as my summer/good weather bike.
