This is my first try at a weight weenie mountainbike. Where I ride, there is hardly any elevation, so no need for big cassettes. No rocks or sharp object either, so lightweight tires should be just fine. I am hoping to finish final assembly next week.

what did you do to make the rear derailleur so light? does xtr m980 10 speed shift well with xtr m9100 11 speed?

Sorry for the late response. I bought it like this, so not sure what work exactly was done. If I would have to guess, most weight loss is down to the carbon pulleys and the rear carbon plate of the derailleur. Not sure if it shifts very well with 11 speed, but I read somewhere it (surprisingly) does.

Change of plans. I managed to get a hold of a somewhat ratty looking Open One+ frame. Aim is to remove the paint to get a nice uniform finish and loose some weight in the process. At 940 grams the frame is a fair bit lighter compared to the Radon.

I also bought some nice weightweenie goodies: Nokon carbon cables, a SRAM 10 speed XX cassette and a Shimano XTR 10 speed shifter.

Unless they have improved, the nokon carbon links will crack eventually. I would use the alloy ones instead

Didn't know that  . We will see I guess. Just really wanted these for like forever. I am a sucker for impossible to find parts.

Removing the paint from the Open frame is taking forever. Front end is almost done now. Weight of the frame is now down to 900 grams.

Managed to finish this the day for my first competition run. Still need to do some fine tuning, but I am really happy with the result so far.

My first race on the Open was also my last. Somehow the chain was lifted onto the chainstay during the (very muddy) race and cut a hole in the chain stay. Maybe because I don't have a cluth on the derailleur? The Radon is now built up with the parts of the Open. I must say it does look good. Maybe even better than the Open.
