I can weigh those later today for ya. I've got a Darimo coming that I'll use
error in judgement on my part here. I thought I was going to transfer my Sworks Power crank over to this bike which was WAY lighter, but I didn't think about it having a short spindle. Luckily this crank has a standard length spindle so I will be able to use it with a BSA -30mm Bottom bracket. My goal will be to get a THM PM crankset some day down the line. But I'm a ways out from that happening.
It hurts to see this weigh so much and know that its going on this bike

I'm more into the aesthetics of the Tarmac. I wasn't a big fan of the aggressive sloping of the top tube and after having a couple Tarmac's I got accustomed to the looks of the seatpost not have a seatpost collar around it. To me, the Aethos only looks good when its set up fairly aggressive. Otherwise a standard Aethos with a bunch of spacers, shorter seatpost and stem, it just looks kind of "meh". I felt that my set up was more on the aggressive side and could visualize how it would look if I built one up.
The other reason I didn't want one was because I was FULLY satisfied and more than content with the two Tarmacs I had. I didn't have an itch for another bike. I did a silly Reel on Instagram about wanting an Aethos, but was only for some humerous content. Someone from Canada wrote me with an offer on this one. I immediately turned him down and then again and again in our conversation. It wasn't till I jokingly brought it up with some friends that they made me think about the possibilites. After a couple days of thinking about it and talking it through with some riding buddies, I was bit hard by the itch. Here I am 2 weeks later posting about my build lol
Totally get what you mean, didn't really like the Aethos asthetic in 'standard' form...reminded me of a TCR copy. Set up agressively it does look quite nice, especially with the subdued branding and the different colour schemes. Space for wide tyres and how every owner raves about the ride quality does have me wondering as well.
Looking forward to how yours turns out.

Now for the bars....
Ughhhh, I know I could save some serious weight by going with a tradition bend bar which some would even argue could look better on this more traditional style frame. However, I absolutely love these bars. After riding a flat top bar, I simply hate the feel of a standard bar now. I've switched bikes with friends who have normal bars and I just can't do it. These are so much more comfortable. Plus, the top tube of this frame is actually oversized and more of a oval than I thought. I think this bar is actually going to match fairly well.
But, seeing that weight kills me every time

Seeing the weight of that saddle kills me
Me too, but my rear is very sensitive to shape and right padding. I've tried SO many saddles and this just works for me. I've often wanted to try a Berk or Alptitude but I just don't know of it's worth it for me
It is what it is.
I'm REALLY loving how this is turning out! Making some progress on the build.
Waiting for my Darimo seatpost to arrive and thinking about pulling the trigger on a Berk Dila to try out. I've always wanted to try a Carbon saddle and this might be the right time. I absolutely love the Power Mimic saddle and thinking the shape of the Dila could be similar enough to work out.

Nick, are you keeping your rain tarmac or will this Aethos replace that?
If I LOVE the Aethos I'll sell my Disc Tarmac frameset. If for whatever reason the Aethos just feels sub par, I'll rebuild my disc Tarmac and sell this. I'm assuming the disc Tarmac will be gone soon lolasiantrick wrote: ↑Fri May 06, 2022 3:49 pmNick, are you keeping your rain tarmac or will this Aethos replace that?
