Klaster_1's Specialized Aethos S-Works (4.99kg)

Packed up the bike yesterday, leaving Russia today. This would be my first flight to a foreign country and the first time flying with a bike. The Topeak Pakgo X I timely bought right after the war started will finally see some use! Actually, I already used the travel stand for small maintenance - not as practical as a proper stand, but better than nothing. At first, I was skeptical all of my bike stuff would fit, but the storage capacity turned out massive. I was able to fit shoes, helmet, two water bottles, two vacuum bags full of clothes, a shoebox worth of small parts and tools and it still had enough nooks and crannies to cram more things into. With a heavier bike, you're more likely to hit the airline weight limit rather than insufficient space, mine came out at 26kg. The only thing not going well was just slightly insufficient case width - left hood was sticking out so much I couldn't zip the case in. Had to unbolt the shifter and lay it down horizontally.

Thanks for highlighting the pros and cons of the hard case. I’m currently looking to travel with the Aethos and trying to find the best case for protection, weight, and minimal disassembly.
Sounds like this is a good case despite the shifter clearance. Safe travels.

My Alpinist seatpost bolts came with blue Loctite on the threads.Klaster_1 wrote:Anyone had issues with the offset Alpinist seatpost lock unscrewing every other ride? Obviously, I didn't read the instructions, just torqued the tension bolt to about the max recommended value for Lupina. I guess a drop of blue thread lock should help.

In this thread, I'll document my new build, an Aethos S-Works. The plan is to move the parts from the good old FM079. Unfortunately, you can't order weight weenie bike parts to Russia at the moment, so for the first iteration I'll have to get by with what I have. No detailed scale shots either until I settle down.
Just FYI - for search engine and forum search function users - Redshift company renamed to "Mixed", the Aliexpress shop is here: https://mixedcycling.aliexpress.com/store/912654594

Here you go! Finally managed to find a time early in the morning for the first ride. The hilly terrain suits Aethos just right, and not a single traffic light in 1.5 hours.
It sure did, from 156g to 95g on seatpost and from 13g collar to 4g, 70.6g in total. The bike weight as in the photo is now 4.96kg. Still have to order RX4+ and find a CNC shop to cut the RX4+ BFO H2O hose furniture. Some weight will be gained when I swap the Ai-2 back, I don't like how Scrub Workhorse looks and am not confident when descending steep mountain roads.
At the end my ride today I almost had an incident - the hollow Ti bolts I used to fasten the computer mount snapped on a road bump. Lucky me this didn't happen 30 minutes earlier during the descend. Lost one of the barrels, now the bike's grounded until I source the replacement. At least now I have spare time for video games
Sent the phone flying a second time this week, not a good sign. Decided to put the stock Garmin adapter back (the broken one is from the Risk out front mount) and ordered an Edge 130 Plus.
I don't think any Garmin style mount is strong enough to cope with 200g+ of phone in the long term. Well, mine wasn't. I've got on pretty well with Trigo's phone mount. Has a large 3M stick-on clip for your phone case. This slots & clicks onto a more substantial mount on the bike. Trigo have three different bike-attachment options: out-front, stem-cap and a simple bar or stem strap. I bought the strap design, dismantled it and bolted it onto a separately bought out-front mount & ran this for about 15,000km. My phone made three bids for freedom in that time - on the 1st two the phone was saved by a high-tech 'piece of string' leash, but the 3rd was terminal as it was multi-pothole-bounced out of its case. I've now de-dismantled the strap mount and have it strapped to my bars holding the replacement (equally cheap) phone. Importantly, the strap version - Trigo TRP1543 - is only 22g including the phone stick-on clip and is available on AliExpress.

@FishNo6 thank you for the detailed write-down, I'll keep the Trigo mounting system in mind if I decide to go back to the phone mount. Not sure if I'd find Edge 130 Plus good enough after the superb IpBike. Is the Trigo out front part compatible with the standard 2/4 hole bolt mount interface all adapters use?
The idea was that Pixel 4a weights only 20g more than an Edge 1030 (122g), just a hair over max capacity. Extra 30g for the case and stick-on clip make a difference, I guess. Apparently, neither male nor female plastic Garmin adapter mount parts can handle the stress - I broke both (not at the same time).I don't think any Garmin style mount is strong enough to cope with 200g+
