Here is my Cervelo R5 built up with both new and used parts from my 2012 Cervelo R5 that got taken out by a van. I got away all grazed up in the accident, but luckily, with no broken bones... but my R5 wasn't so lucky. Long story short, so when I decided to build up a new bike, I wanted it to have the same characteristics and sit at around the same weight (6.1kg) that my old bike was at. So first I looked at a few different framesets that would help me achieve that – I considered the Factor O2 VAM, Bianchi Specialisima, Canyon Ultimate and BH Ultralight. All would have made great bikes, but at the end of the day, I enjoyed the ride of my old R5 so much that I finally decided on another R5.

It is currently sitting at 5.98kg all in. I could have gotten it a tad lighter if I went with maybe the 11-28 with the regular short cage eTap rear derailleur (that I already had on hand) rather than with the 11-32 cassette and the A2 eTap rear derailleur to accomodate the 32. There's about 40g difference between the two derailleurs and about another 40g in the cassette. But I always wanted to try a 32, and I'm actually enjoying the 32 too much to want to give it up at the moment... hahahaha! Plus I am quite glad that I actually got it a tad lighter than the last build – but then again...

Any thoughts out there on how to push it a wee bit further without going too crazy?

And here is a pic of the 2012 Cervelo R5 a few months before the crash sitting at 6.1kg all in.

Awesome buiild, I would be pretty stoked at this point...not easy to get the weight much lower w/o compromising functionality. Perhaps I would have said the cranks, although even there I am not sure how much weight you could actually save with say a Clavicula or something similar...overall really nice rig!

Darimo seatpost would save probably 60g.
The barplugs are heavy - but you know that, could use plastic or carbon and save 16g.
Presta valves don't need valve caps by design - 1g saved.
Mandibles are sturdy but heavy-ish. Pretty easy to get a pair of cages for 30gs, but thats a preference thing.
Its a nice build.
