Feel free to create a thread on this forum, PM me, or post below.callemacody wrote: ↑Wed Oct 14, 2020 8:51 amThis is a fantastic thread, I am not at your level, neither skill or budget , but I am myself preparing my Supersix HM for a mountain triathlon. Perhaps you could help me with a few pointers if I write up a quick summary of my bike, gear and triathlon profile ?
Welcome any help, will add pictures etc as i make upgrades

Right, carbonworks ones don't have the upper hook to hold the bottle in place. So this is same design, with added grip for an extra 2grams.

Where did you buy these from and how much are them, if I may?RouarierDmer wrote:Carbonworks style bottlecages. I use them on another bike already and find them and grippy enough to hold the bottle in place even when you ride on potholes and rough roads. At least compared to other lightweight options and shapes.

I very much doubt CarbonWorks would sell their products on AE, but a 7g cheap bottle holder, given the quality is good enough, is a win for budget-conscious weightweenies. It would be nice if you reviewed the cage after some use.

Like I wrote it is a Carbonworks "style" bottlecage, unbranded. Design is very similar if you prefer. Design it what matters most in the end for bottlecages. I have been riding these for the past year or so and would recommend them (except mabe for bottles behind the saddle as they take lots of vibrations and I have not tested them in that position). The part that the Carbonworks does not have -the upper hook- is an interesting feature according to me when riding on rough surface as it holds the bottle in place and prevents it from sliding forward (see first pict).
I have tried other weightweenie designs, including the Lightweight style one, but the upper hook angle was not steep enought to retain the bottle on some occasions. On another one, I found the bottle was hard to put back in place as it gets stuck in the gap between the two bolts.
Finally there is another model I use on a previous bike project, which looks a bit like Xlab Gorilla and works fine, but its circa 35g.
Profile Design Vise is also good but at ~30g, again it's not a weightweenie solution I think

SRAM Red RD now sits at 135g, with lighter limit screws. Anyone knows other simple ways to make it lighter?

Aluminium jockey wheel bolts (mine are J&L), remove material from cage and body, DIY cable tension adjuster made from a plastic screw, swap in lighter parts from older Red 22 RD revisions (@Godzuki extensively covered this), Delrin pivot bolt. Have you seen the thread?RouarierDmer wrote: ↑Sat Oct 17, 2020 4:41 pmSRAM Red RD now sits at 135g, with lighter limit screws. Anyone knows other simple ways to make it lighter?

Thanks, yes I had a look at it. Very interesting as a proof of concept. I am more looking for quick wins to shave off a few grams. Barrel adjuster looks like an easy one, the rest could compromise the strength and longevity of the parts. Pulley bolts are alloy already on the Red.

Hello my friend,
Not a lot of easy wins down this end of town......
The barrel adjuster, pulleys and cage plate is about all that can be simply changed out, the rest will require you to get the 'ol dremel' out.

Whatever you do, do not dremel out the "red" plate that acts as a bridge between the two upper armatures to the parallelogram. The P-knuckle-side pivot pin is pressed in from one end, and is friction fit on the large end, not the tip as one would expect. If you take out the "red" plate, you'll get play in the parallelogram, which is not ride-ending, but not great either (Had to replace mine because I tuned too far, was almost brand new ). You can take off most of it using the dremel, but leave a little bit of it to keep the two halves joined.
