Awesome thread. Great to see everything being weighed.

I'm so disappointed at Cervelo these days. Especially considering I have a 2008 SLC-SL that weighs 5.77kg with 46mm carbon wheels and no exotic parts other than Tune Mig/Mag hubs and dura-ace 7800.

A 2007 R3-SL running 1st Gen Sean Red with Chris King hubs in Mavic Open pros weighing at 6.4kg.

211g aero seatpost I guess is kinda acceptable. But a 237g handlebar is sad considering how much composite knowledge Cervelo has. How much did the fork weigh?

Cervelo could have easily designed a sub 200g handlebar. Hopefully the fork weighs sub 330g?

The Handlebar is actually 270.7 (for a 38cm), the 42cm ones are 279.8! yeah, I think they could have gone lighter by some way, there are no aftermarket bars that will fit either (you need cable/hose grooves that extend into the clamp area)

The Fork is c. 430g due to the expander/quill reinforcement and general disc brake strengthening, again it could be lighter!

Saying all that, I have not ridden a bike that holds speed as well as this one does, it just flies along

What about something like the Pro Vibe Ultralights? If I remember correctly that bar has a hole on the back that may be big enough to route everything.

did your ever replace the stock seat clamp hardware?
I was able find replacement ti bolts and yokes, but no cradle.
Where did you find the Ti yokes?

Hi,

is there any 3D printed Wahoo mount for the Cervelo S3 front plate?
I don´t like the shape of the Barfly mount.

And did somebody changed the handlebar to another one?

@Cajer: TI Yokes are not available, I use J&L ones from ebay
@Sworkser: No 3d Printed Wahoo mount is available, it would need to have a metal insert to prevent cracking when tightened onto the T-bar that fits the slot in the stem, you could use one that fits on the lower bolts or a bar mounted version with a narrow clamp.
No other bar I have found fits (including the Pro Vibe Ultralights that AnkitS mentioned)

In other news, am slower going through the bike and making it lighter, the biggest win will come with new wheels, Target weight is 7.3Kg..

what is the handlebar diameter? There does exist aftemarket handlebars with integrated cable routing that exits at the back of the bar into the stem.

Examples:

3T AEROFLUX
weight 225g

Ritchey WCS CARBON EVOCURVE INTERNAL ROUTING HANDLEBAR

FSA SL-K COMPACT CARBON HANDLEBAR

@Cheers! - Thanks for that, was not aware of the other bars out there, I like the look of the Ritchey one.. will see what I can get hold of.

Also, whilst I am waiting for my new wheels to arrive, I upgraded to a Sigeyi Direct Mount Hangar, saving a massive 9g! it does match the Dura Ace mech much better, and the wheel seems easier to get in and out... so all good.

9grams is 9grams saved.

Have you done any bolt tuning?

Ti bolts for:
-stem clamp for the handlebar?
-expansion wedge for the stem that goes into the headtube?
-brake calipers
-seat post wedge thingy
-Front deraileur bolts

Aluminum bolts for:
-bottle cages

New brake centerlock lock ring: https://absoluteblack.cc/centerlock-lockring2.html
KCNC cassette lockring?

Using XTR RT-MT900 brake rotors instead of Dura-Ace SM-RT900
XTR vs Dura Ace weights
160mm is 10g
140mm is 9g

So...

Some updates, as part of my yearly strip and rebuild..

Cranks:
Sanded/Polished Quarq Cranks (The logo's have always annoyed me!)

Image

Savings 4.3g

Stem:
After conversations with Cervelo, who advised it was OK to cut down (as you do when you buy a smaller than 54cm frame), I removed approx. 25mm of the Quill.

Image

Image

The stem weight went from 234.6 to 218.2

Changed out the M5 x 100 Compression bolt and the M6 x 45 stem bolt for TI versions (after much searching for suitable replacements)
Image

Image

Image

Image

Compression Bolt: 14.6 > 7.7
Stem Bolt:11 > 5.9

Quill Removal: 16.4g
Bolt Changes: 12g

Total Savings 28.4g

Bars:
Removed approx. 20mm from both ends (have never grabbed that part of the bar)

Image

272 > 263.2

Savings 8.8g

Cassette:
Dura-Ace CS-9100 11:30 > BDOP 1 Piece Steel 11-28

Image

206 > 179.5 (185.7 with Lockring)

Total Savings 26.5g

Still to come, Wheels and a few other bits, also doing a bit of friction reduction at the moment..

I tried the AB lube with a KMC X11 DLC chain and was not overly thrilled with the results. I found the chain noise was louder, not to mention the AB coating is a dull gray when dry and the chain was not appreciably any cleaner than with conventional lubes.

Changed the Saddle to a Berk Lupina, found a carbon cradle for the seatpost, installed a C-Bear Ceramic BB, oh and cleaned it, now 7.67Kg

Very nice S3... 👍

Where did you get the carbon cradle?

@ms6073: Thanks, it is an (expensive) test to see if it lives up to the AB hype, will report back after a 1000 or so miles

@NIXvelo: The Carbon cradle was taken from an Elita one seatpost (get off Aliexpress) I had on my gravel bike, you can get also get lighter versions from Smud (http://www.smud-carbon.eu/cradle_seatpost.html)

Wheels:
This was the big change (obviously contributed most to the weight savings!)

• Hunt 50 Aero Disc > Farsports Feder 45mm / 28 Wide w. Sapim Spokes/ CeramicSpeed Bearings
• Conti 4000SII > Conti 5000
• Conti Supersonic > Tubolito S-Tubo
• Rotors Dura Ace RT900 > XTR MT900 (Dura Ace Front had warping issues ever other ride)

Wheels: 1537.8 > 1234.4
Tyres: 454.5 > 466.3
Tubes: 106.4 > 42.5
Rotors: 237 > 210.8

Total Savings 391.9g

And I have finally finished the rebuild:

Other minor changes:
• Covered up the S3 Logo on the chainstays
• Replaced Jockey Wheels with J&L Ceramic
• Chose some funky bar-tape (still growing on me)
• Ti Rear Disc caliper bolts

Total Weight before rebuild: 7.67Kg
Total Weight after rebuild: 7.19Kg

Just need to find .19Kg to get into the Sub 7 category, not sure where to go for that, any suggestions?
